Speaking as a someone with no involvement in the court system - I kind of like seeing this. Walking around seeing dolled up barristers, soldiers in service dress, even business types in suits etc. always adds a certain something to the day. Shows the world around one "happening".

I remember getting hassle at snaresbrook for just taking my collar off and putting a coat on to go out at lunch without a day collar & tie. Then you go near the RCJ and civil law barristers are wandering about the streets in all their finery! Animals.

The barristers who have chambers near me make sure everyone knows what they do in the local cafe by sitting there braying in loud voices about their various cases etc. to the point that we have to leave and find somewhere quieter to have a coffee! No need to wear their costumes.
