It's an extremely long process - a year or more, before appeals - and the governor has to be present every minute, serving as prosecutor, jury, and judge.
It would be simpler for the city to hold a recall, or vote him out in November. Till then, tie him up with legal challenges at every step.
The problem is that this has never been done before. The governor has to convene a hearing to determine if the mayor should be removed from office. The governor is the prosecutor, judge, and jury and she must be present for every day of the hearing. The mayor has a right to representation y counsel
And the right to appeal to the state court anything that he finds appropriate to challenge. He has a right to appeal a final ruling made by the governor and he probably can enjoin his removal during his appeal. This is a years long process that has never happened before.
I am not a licensed to practice law in New York- that said, typically a felony conviction while in office is an automatic disqualification for elected officials.
Impeachment and other remedies (recall, censure & etc. ) are statutory in form and specific to each state.
It is like pulling the pin from a grenade while still holding it. Mayor Adams went to a black church on Sunday to appeal to his voting base. The same voting base Gov. Hochul needs for re-election. A white women removing a black man who runs as an independent & use race as his campaign.
I personally don't think she will oust Adams. I think she is trying to figure out her best strategy to get reelected, which will probably need some "purple people," but she will talk about the will of the people and taking away their votes.
Thank you Governor Hochul! I love strong women! Adams is a criminal. Sucking up to the Orange criminal to get away with his. Crimes. Stop electing criminals and traitors!
I think she’s waiting for judge Ho’s ruling today as he hears DOJ reasons for dismissal. They have only political reasons so Ho may reject. It’s at 2 pm eastern today hearings.
@kathyhochul.bsky.social It,is beyond time to take action and remove this blantant quid pro quo corruption. You,have the power to,do,something so please stop watching all this as passive bystander. It is your duty to remove him. It is a stain on NYC!!!
#republicans are now responsible for the fact the USA will never again have a free and fair ELECTION!
@kaine.senate.gov @aoc.bsky.social @hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social and if you all don’t see that yet - you are TOO far behind. #elections why republicans aren’t scared of voters/constituents now.
It’s not a simple firing of the Mayor of NYC. Hochul has taken steps to meet the elements of the law to remove Adams. It’s a bigger process than media presents.
Trump’s DOJ just set a terrifying precedent—one that could silence journalists, whistleblowers, and political opponents. Meanwhile, those in power look the other way. This article exposes the full story—and what we must do before it’s too late
I’ll believe it when it happens. Hochul is my Governor too. I don’t dislike her as a person, but she’s way too far to the right (for a Democrat) in my opinion. She tries to cater to Upstate Democrats too much. The result is she pleases NOBODY! She’s intelligent, but comes across as wishy-washy. ☮️
