It’s definitely something primal inside us. U’d be amazed how territorial clients r about the right spot for them. Heaven help the unsuspecting newbie that nabs a preferred position.
I do this with yoga and I've stopped going because last time another early bird suggested I watch a show and I haven't yet and probably won't and I don't want to have that conversation. It is completely me, not her, why am I like this
As (I'm AuDHD) Pilates Instructor who is excellent at masking, I only speak to new people and those who openly invite chat, as I don't usually want to make small talk. IMO a good instructor should also be good at reading people.
I too am a creature of habit (the lady who gets to class early to get the same reformer each & every time), but I thoroughly enjoy the majority of my instructors & look forward to talking to them if I even get a chance! They're all just too ✨cool✨ that everyone wants to chat them up.
I know that feeling. I used to go to OneLife, and if I came too early you're just awkwardly standing outside the location waiting to go in and you have to make small talk with others. Come in at the right time, you can grab your station card and just start warming up without awkward small talk.
