Any tech that has an army of boosters is almost always bullshit. Actual, useful tech advances don't need hype men because the benefits are self-evident and lead organically to quick, widespread adoption.

solar does have the hype men that every industry has. It is cool how it went from an environmentalist cause to something where chamber of commerce types are writing op-eds against the California PUC.

Their projection for UK power per capita in 2050 is 900 watts, about 55% of the current use (if everything were electrified).
That's slightly more conservative than Allwood's own government-funded group estimates, which you can read about here:

The two lines of power production from solar etc and AI use almost mirror each other; it's a primary reason why consumers aren't generally getting benefit from the green energy revolution because we have to power chat bots that give wrong answers.

I still use your flat-screen:CRT :: EVs:ICE analogy to explain how quickly the changeover to EVs is going to happen once it hits a critical mass. The more people buy EVs, the fewer gas stations and auto mechanics there will be, the less people will want ICE vehicles

ISTM the EV changeover would be a great time for states – especially blue states – to change their horrible car dealership laws and enable direct to consumer sales. Reservations near populated areas seem like another great opportunity to break dealer monopolies

I'd argue we're living through at least two such transformations, the other being in biotech. mRNA vaccines for cancer and HIV are in human trials and yielding encouraging results, and CRISPR is being used right now to treat sickle cell disease.
