Pierre Poilievre has not tweeted yet about Trump's threats. His last response to the tariff threat was so weak, so rote, that I do not have high hopes. But I sincerely hope he rises to this moment.

This is accurate; the US would never allow Canada to elect members of Congress and Senators. At best we would be a protectorate like Puerto Rico with no electoral influence.
We don’t have to be the 51st state for PP to hand the 🍊💩 some sweet deals on our resources, borders and markets. Plus throw in a couple SoCon nuggets to satisfy the zealots. That’s all he is really after.
Wondering if Wayne Gretzky is going to weigh in on all this. Trump’s endorsed him for Canadian governor. Is he skating where that puck is going or what?
This is why I’m still unconvinced that he’ll win a bigger majority than Harper even with all the help he’s been getting from the press, because he’s so thin-skinned and quick to melting down
Sigh. He's unable to stand up for Canada without including domestic political jabs. And his adoption of Trumpian slogans isn't helpful, particularly in this context.
This is the one point of vulnerability that could mess up his campaign--if Canadians think he will sell out Canadian sovereignty to Trump.
It might play well with the loonies on the far right, but giving any sense that he would succumb to Trump easily might snatch defeat from jaws of victory
My working assumption was that this possibility was Trudeau's best (only?) path to winning the next election: survive as PM until the danger from Trump becomes unmissable post-inauguration. Freeland's resignation (plus his initial weak response) shut that down.
Even if he manages to sound like a leader and defend Canadian sovereignty, the actions/leanings of some conservative Premiers could undermine or derail him.
I think we have entered a new era where the provincial premiers show less & less respect for the Feds and way less for whoever holds the office of PM. PP may have less trouble but he will still have to herd the cats.
The way they've been setting their provinces up as little fiefdoms where they have as much or more power than a PM, if they have no desire to run federally, what's the incentive to work with the PM, even one in their own party?
How will the Liberals and NDP reach his supporters? He has nearly exclusive access to them through Twitter, YouTube personalities, tech bros, True North/Rebel/WS/Postmedia,...
That's a good question, but I would guess that a hunk of those leaning Conservative are alienated Liberals, NDP, etc. He just needs to lose 5-10% and he ain't getting the majority he craves.
If there's a way Poilievre could incinerate all of the political capital the CPC currently has, that would do it. He's in a very precarious position right now.
He's part of Harper's IDU which endorses Trump and the GOP. Poilievre and Conservatives (esp. the Con. Premiers) see this as an opportunity to make money by selling Canada's assets/resources to Trump. MSM will assist.
Poilievre was in the news today. He just went on and on, never shutting up with the same memorized slogans. It was unbelievable. On and on and on and on. Blah blah blah. Absolutely totally ridiculous.
Then, as usual when it came to him being questioned he pulled his usual disappearing act.
All Poilievre can do is lift another slogan from someone about it, like how he stole 'axe the tax' from Tony Abbott in Australia from 10 yrs ago. Who did axe it. Pollution increased exponentially, he turned rebates into taxpayer subsidies to big oil/coal. And was quickly turfed for being a con man.
I don’t have any faith in PP, he is a Harper acolyte, essentially been endorsed by Musk, refuses to meet w/any Canadian journalists, has a voting record that is regressive…he’s not going to stand up for Canada 🇨🇦
Well the good news is Poilievre has lost the HoC as his personal platform to spew out his vacuous idiot statements and lies under the protection of parliamentary privilege.

I am starting to think that Trump will be bad for PP's electoral performance, which is why he's crying for an immediate election.
Unless the media does not want to do so… 🤔

Strategy: only publish what info can be fact-checked
Tactic: don’t engage in PP’s rage-machine and stay on topic

Ford also strongly pushed back on it. Never heard Smith, Bernier, or Moe say anything about it.

It’s going to be over who can respond to Trump; who will stand up for Canada.
Ass kissing won’t cut it
That’s kind of awkward isn’t it?
