Canada sits at a hinge point of history, and we will need to reimagine the country to deal with our new reality, and it is bewildering that every party, and every leader, is pitching tax cuts. Our would-be leaders need to rise higher to meet the moment. https://www.thestar.com/politics/political-opinion/canadas-next-leader-needs-a-bold-vision-to-reimagine-the-country-itself-but-no-one/article_901f3a63-734f-4eb3-8d5d-e6573de17cdf.html

My question is why the Liberal Party isn’t talking strategy with the Dems.

So tiring, after all this time. And opinions or 'analysis' do not a journalist make. Ever. Offer criticism without any solutions. No answers. Another Peepee.
The only thing that ever trickles down are the tears of the poor.
The things that make Canada great need to be properly funded and the provinces need to be accountable to the Feds that funds received are used as intended or they will be cut off until in compliance. No private HC.
Danielle Smith UCP promised a 20% tax cut to anyone making less than $60,000/yr
UCP gets elected in what was a pivotal issue in the 2023 campaign
A pretty clear & obvious choice for Canadians interested in staying Canadians.

We're going to need a lot more Keynes and a lot less Thatcher up ahead.
Austerity and tax cuts
And a malicious milignent currupt media that still turns it into a gameshow debate between sides and refuses 40 years of failure. 40 years of context. Dissappears the reality of it behind a studio produced reality show infomercial for privilege
I am just as concerned with those going to the US and for their reasons, as I am with Americans coming into Canada.
I have no confidence in what Smith's and Moe's people might be saying/doing down there.
And I am concerned about the agenda of people visiting from the US.
And use a variety of inflation management tools to manage inflationary pressures like America did during The New Deal then WWII:

I don't disagree with building up our defenses to protect us against America but that is the pretext Putin used to invade Ukraine so handle with care.

If he's still on this track, it could make us more vulnerable.
Perhaps blindness isn’t only of the eyes for some, but of the peripheral as well.
Rub them clear and look around.

I trust that PM Carney has a complex and robust plan that can balance some lower income tax cuts. He knows what he's doing.
They should be talking about tax INCREASES and the VALUE of our public services like HEALTH and EDUCATION, and *DEFENCE* We all need to chip MORE in to maintain & protect the Canadian way of life, not ME FIRST
We're in a 'Brand' election. Stakes are higher and the media should really stop the horse-race crap, report the moment and who is best meeting it.
"this is going to cost us, but it will be worth it -- and honestly, we have no other choice as a nation"
Unfortunately, their vote is worth the same as everyone else's.
Say what you will about the future, if the other side is offering ~ $1000 a year and you aren't... Well, given the last few global elections, do you really trust the better angels of our nature?
It’s clearly a manoeuvre to neuter what was to come in proposed CPC cuts. Some centre-right voters will feel better for that
Surely a part of politics is limiting your opponent’s ability to hit on issues, limit those perceived weaknesses &1 then focus on your own offence
I also suspect tariffs are but an opening salvo, the American pirate ship is intent on raiding Canada.
Also the paragraph about the NDP proposal seems to not understand what they're proposing; raising the exemption quite literally helps the bottom income rung.
This is good policy. GST is a regressive tax (especially on essentials!) and raising the basic personal amount will proportionally make the most difference to folks w/ lower incomes.
I can see why they’re focusing on that.
The US situation will force the big vision/big spend hand but we’re not quite there yet, they’re focused on getting the mandate 1st
Some reorganization may be necessary, but it's not necessary to destroy everything doing it.
We can build from there.
That bar may seem low but 2 provinces (including mine) can’t clear it so 🇨🇦 survival wins for me in 2025.
PS: I believe in all the good things just like the author & most people here 🦋🐾
A lot of people never get to the top of that triangle.
I also think he has more vision than he lets on. Under promise over deliver is a rare political bird. I like how he’s honest about what’s to come.
All this shit be for Canada giving shelter to Americans who refused to fight in Vietnam.
Or something similar.
"SAME THING, SAME THING!"
Making the big earners pay their fair share of taxes is the solution, but of course that won’t happen because big C Capitalism has infected Canada too.
There is no other tune they can follow without the voters losing their shit, cuz they're the ones who love those two words "tax cuts" even though nothing ever get better for them.
Perception is reality.
47 will do what he wants he won’t ask NATO. Where have you been? Are you a Russian troll?
