the bit i have the most trouble accepting is people who came online after the introduction of The Algorithmification of social media because i always just reflexively assume "oh of COURSE nobody uses the 'for you' page, who would want to see random posts instead of people they follow"

The time I first encountered people thinking the Archive Of Our Own has an algorithm (which they were, of course, mad at), was when I realized there are people who don't have any conscious experience of anything online except algorithmically surfaced material/interactions!

is that why there isn't a huge outrage over online shops offering 75% polyester, 25% rayon sheets as a top result when i explicitly searched for "cotton sheets" and selected the "cotton" filter option for material content??
