TFW your students are figuring out how many seconds in a year (to calculate Earth's orbital acceleration) so you start singing Seasons of Love and they look at you strangely because they've never heard the song

The other day I introduced students to an oil boom for cleaning up spills and without hesitation I said “can I get three booms for oil booms” and I got a few kids to give me some full chested booms with fist pumps and a I got a few pity booms and a mix of cringe and shocked faces.

But speaking of references, I do make occasional Simpsons references...for the student whose dad made Simpsons references with me when he was my student
Absolutely this! My favorite is when the references I make a lot in spite of the blank stares shift from a weird thing Stoeckel likes to say to a weird thing Stoeckel's physics students say, especially when they still don't know the reference.
I consider a major part of my role as introducing my students classics - the video of this (from the movie with Idina Menzel, et. al.) is part of that.😎
