I have a soft spot for pylons. My dad spent his entire working life building them around the world. This is from around 1974 when, as he likes to remind us, H & S definitely didn’t exist

I was kind of hesitant, as I was worried it might be a bit patronising. Sort of like saying to a massive sci-fi fan "Have you seen a film called Star Wars?"
Though I guess Amongst Giants did go under the radar when it was released. Only 1 week at the cinema.

There was a super moment in "The secret life of the National Grid" on BBC4 when they showed a chap (he'd definitely have been a 'chap') climbing a pylon. His entire safety equipment appeared to be a tweed suit, some stout boots and a pipe between his teeth.

I love the shapes and angle, and feel that the receding wires that bisect the photo down to the corner really make the photo interesting to the eye. Lines can really *make* a photo.

Your Exe/tree/mist view was perfect, though! I wouldn't say the pylon *made* it, but it was certainly not damaged by that little industrial spike in the distance as balance.

There is something quite bewitching about old industrial architecture: pylons and gasholders and power stations etc. I guess they were thought of as ugly back in the day, but now they seem strangely pure. They had a function and they performed it, with no pretentiousness.

One of my friend's Dad helped design the engineering for the bars and riveting for those pylons. Do like the new ones you see in the M5 near Bridgwater. French designed naturally.
