In light of these concerns, and others like it on public campuses (restrictions around DEI, suppression of student and faculty voices for Palestine) private liberal art education can position itself to aid the resistance.

This has already been happening in Florida. Travel to conferences involving "identity politics" won't be reimbursed or even approved, in some cases.

Saw this coming. Child got in their excellent jazz program but at auditions heard music school’s women’s group was going to be disbanded & article in school paper said their cultural center had to shut down bc of state laws banning DEI. Denton was surprisingly inclusive but state action ruining it!

This is already happening in Virginia. University staff (and all state employees) have to get approval from their state cabinet Secretary to attend conferences or travel out of state.

NIH conference grants require a DEI document as part of the application. The university I work for eliminated their DEI dept and my PI is VERY concerned that a long held R13 will be denied due to this.

UT Austin has a fantastic computer science graduate program.

Personally worked with many foreign born grads drawn to the university and now citizens. Also UTA has many foreign born (Asian) faculty.

Texas is going down the tubes if they mess with the system.

The new president of UNT did higher Ed policy work at UT before moving on to chair of Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. So this doesn’t bode well for other publics in the state.

He started his career as the higher Ed policy adviser for a state legislator. Every job he’s has been related to that work. So it’s concerning to see UNT going down this path. Especially given the recent A&M news.
