It's like people hearing "Your chances increase by 80% if you do X!" not realizing that doesn't actually raise the whole possibility to 80% ... it means if you had only a 1% chance before, you now have a 1.8% chance.

there’s another bit missing here - prices rarely actually decrease. If high inflation is bad, even slight deflation sustained is devastating to economies. There’s a good reason the fed targets slight inflation instead of zero.

The media certainly indulged in the idea that voters just wanted to go back to prices during Trump’s first term. Nobody talked about the economic reality that such deflation would too be an economic crisis.

Yes, this was something people knew at least intuitively when rounds of inflation were common. But young people now hadn't seen inflation before in their lives, and people older have forgotten.

This is something I’ve had to explain to people countless times the last few years. Inflation is a rate, and it’s always positive (if not, that’s a whole ‘nother problem). “But everything’s more expensive now!” Yeah, that’s how inflation works, this isn’t a new phenomenon.

This was always hours of arguments on the other app. Before the election inflation was getting near goal of 2% (A huge accomplishment) and endless replies from blue checks that just didn’t get it.

They didn’t realize it but they were screaming for deflation which leads to recession.
