They’re trying to stick any messaging at the wall that isn’t AOC and Bernie’s that the people actually want. Because that would piss off their donors. To win US voters, you either need full scale hatred and incompetence, or admitting we need major structural economic change.
Newsom’s term as governor has done more to damage the Democratic brand than almost any other force in the last 5 years.
California’s homeless crisis, open air drug markets, rampant shoplifting / theft, & general govt mismanagement have been easy targets for the GOP propaganda machine to highlight.
Didn’t Democrats get almost the same amount of votes as republicans ?
People don’t detest them — they want to believe in someone or something — give it to them
Well, no. There does have to be a definition for what progressive means, which means some positions will exclude you from being progressive. And it's good to have high standards for elected officials.
How do you look at Trump 2016 then? Electability is not a static thing where x = 1 until the end of time, nor is it independent from other factors. It certainly is not more important if you end up winning the election with a candidate who does not represent your beliefs.
This is literally the exact reason why I’m partially tuning out of politics this year, because I don’t trust most Democrats to actually take any of this seriously.
There’s a place for climbers like Newsom, even tho we’re up to our necks with self focused ambition wh…rs with the current trump clown car. I think Jack has the message right. We are who we want to be, not what anyone says we are.
Except that wasn't Newsom's message—he was referring to voters' perception of the dem brand. Why do you think none of the headlines include his full quote? But sure let's "push back" on Trump & the oligarchs by rallying against the governor of the most progressive state for LGBTQ+ rights for clicks.
The ONLY thing dems need to talk about now is all of the shit they will reverse when the GOP is out and how long it will take for each. That’s it. Nothing more.
I’d say they also need to set up an accountability structure. They need to be held accountable for any promise they don’t keep. Not just through the polls but with actual tangible consequences for failing to achieve promises and goals in a timely manner.
He’s wrong. The one thing leftoids and Republicans agree on is that Democrats are bad. Whether it’s for “genocide” and “the DNC screwed Bernie” or “Dems hate you want to import illegals to change America”, the pincer strategy of attacking Dems from all sides has been brutal
A thought. Dems are currently irrelevant. Action is required YESTERDAY, I think there is a place for a liberal non oligarch funded party, but other than joining “We the People” in the fight, Dems are not going to be the street fighters needed. 💕
The Democratic party could respond to the very clear appetite for large governmental reform/systems change instead of the "get back to the status quo" message that failed them, or the Republican's "burn everything to the ground and trample minority rights" platform. There are other choices
Because America knew what it was getting with Trump, considered the D alternative, and voted Trump anyway. That's how bad dems were at politics. They've earned the derision. MAGA also deserves derision, BTW.
So you knew and voted for an autocrat to dismantle the government that has made the US the leading nation in the world. That is definitely worthy of derision.
Gavin Newsom made a real tactical error (aside from him revealing himself to be merely an opportunistic/transactional pol to the core). He can delude himself to think that he can move to the middle but he's already alienated much of that middle...the people who've stood behind him for decades.
trump is toxic, trump is a Republican, Republicans support trump, when the opportunity to remove trump came along republicans refused to remove trump, Republicans are the problem. Republicans are toxic
🙋🏻♀️Australian perspective - the dems are facing a similar issue that our 2-party preferred system is facing in my country too. The progression away from centre right to more right leaning. This has deterred a lot of staunch democratic voters because why would they support a party they can’t align with
Unfortunately, both parties are toxic. We didn't get to where we are today without participation from everyone. It's time for younger Americans to replace the old guard by whatever means necessary.
Democrat leaders only care about power and money. They will use social movements to gain support in elections and then do little to nothing to actually advance those movements into policy. It’s time for all progressives to come together and vote in a third party that doesn’t bow to bribes.
I saw this crap when I was at the gym this morning. Gavin is making the party toxic in his own way. You can have a “reasonable” conversation with Steve Bannon, but you just look foolish. Schumer isn’t the answer. But neither is this crap he’s doing.
No he is not! entertaining people that want to overthrow Democracy (Bannon/Kirk) is not breaking thru an Echo Chamber. That is BS. Bring Bannon and Buttigeig on the same show then maybe there is some lesson to learn, But just smiling like a Jackass agreeing with these dipshits is just Capitulation
Maybe. But I’d want to see some studies and stats. Did all of Buttigieg’s Fox appearances help? How about the Newsom vs DeSantis debate. Did it change minds, or just get lost in confirmation bias?

People detest the democrats.
Unfortunately it is true.
Mostly because people are ignorant rubes.
Clearly Democrats are doing something wrong.
People don’t detest them — they want to believe in someone or something — give it to them
I wish it wasn’t the case.
Losing by 1% is still not glowing praise
You’re not “progressive” unless you…
The party needs to win first and foremost and to do that pandering to activists won’t work.
Focus on kitchen table issues: economy, taxes, crime, healthcare, etc.
You cannot always get what you want.
Biden was nowhere near the most progressive candidate in 2020 but he had electability. And he won.
Like the numerous polls that said Trump would win 2024.
There are good hearted people who follow Bannon and are just indoctrinated or falling for confirmation bias.
Gavin could be making a last impact on some of them.
Podcasts are a different arena and vibe. They’re generally less combative/competitive.
It won’t be fast but little by little they can break the conservative echo chamber.
With Newsom, it’s hard to tell how much of this is a vanity project.
