If Putin already has access to the secrets, you might as well give her a clearance, too. If not for anything else, then to give her an opportunity to keep an eye on Lil'Pete. His history of fidelity is a bit bleamished, after all...
Maybe they are trying to retroactively make it seem OK that he included her in the classified Signal chat? Or cover themselves if he does it again inadvertently? They seem so utterly inept and disorganized that I wouldn't be surprised if someone thought this would fix the whole problem.
if you aren't familiar with the world view widely espoused on fox news...the only reason wives aren't employees is because unpaid employees are called slaves, not employees
Being a partner of someone holding a high security clearance, doesn't bestow that same trust on her. When the background investigation was conducted for my clearance, there was also an investigation on my wife, but I still never shared what I was doing accidently or otherwise.
Ron, did U see my post about my glancing up n seeing Heggies wife n asked from friend "was that MTG. She said ur so stupid n I don't no wat I'm going 2 do with U." In my defense I wasn't paying attention.🤣
Was this an, ‘Oh-shit!-My-wife-needs-a-security-clearance-after-the-fact-because-I-may-or-may-not-have-accidentally-sent-her-classified-war-plans-through-an-unsecured-Signal-chat’? Or was this just some standard ‘wife of the Secretary of Defense’ security clearance?
Jennifer seems to wear the pants n that house lmao
Nothing wrong with that, but this snowflake prick always talks shit about it and tries to appear in “control” when he’s really not 🤣🤣🤣
That's odd. I remember quite distinctly them saying that they had revoked security clearances for Biden and Harris, so I guess it's 'selective' whom they discuss publicly?
Last four SecDef(s) … Austin, Esper, Miller(for a couple of minutes before hightailing it out of dodge), Esper, Mattis … can anyone confirm a spouse granted Security Clearance with access to national security briefs? Should take a couple of minutes max time.
What the Trump admin idiots need to be asked is... why did Hegseth's wife NEED TO KNOW details about a military air strike? Because unless she had the NEED TO KNOW those details, it doesn't matter what security clearance she had or has.
Because she’s the brains in that relationship. She most likely has to translate all communication he receives because he’s a brain addled moron who has no clue what he’s doing.
I don't think those are mutually exclusive, see Maria Butina, the Russian NRA honey pot that was sleeping around with Republican legislators collecting data .
So, of the many, many disturbing things I've heard about him, this isn't one of those. Sometimes a spouse will get a clearance just so they can hear about what their spouse is doing at work.
Having a clearance is only part of sharing classified information, the other part is having a need to know. What could possibly be her need to know or even her need for a clearance?
He needed to gain security clearance for anybody he might find himself drunk in the vicinity of. To prevent him from breaking laws on transmitting official secrets.
...what defines MAGA the most is their "codependency"...they hated DEI hires, because it prevented them from hiring friends and family - a "better fit", I suppose...bringing the equivalent of a "human binky" to work means you're too insecure to do the job...
With classified or confidential government and security information, even people who have a security clearance are only allowed to access the information on a need-to-know basis.
Why the fuck would this bitch need security clearance? She is only his drinking buddy and punching bag. Or did she apply for security to keep her safe from Bourbon Pete?
Access to classified material requires two things, the appropriate security clearance and the need to know. What classified material does she need to know?
Well, except when they very publicly announce when security clearances are being spitefully stripped from former officials, even officials whose clearances were already removed months ago
Security clearance aside, you must have a need to know.
At one point in my life I had a clearance. That didn’t mean I could just stop by SCIFs to say hi, have people send me random classified info or rummage through a cabinet of TS docs.
If his wife had a TS/SCI she still had no need to know.
Who would have predicted that the USA national security would be one of the flimsiest in the world? Your most important information has been converted to content for a MAGA social network.
Because he can't keep his mouth shut even in matters of the highest secrecy. This guy is not qualified he needs to hold his wife's hand through every meeting
It usually takes about a year for a TS to be adjudicated. Regardless, at no time is it appropriate or legal to share classified information with uncleared people who have no operational need for access.
I lived in that world for most of my 47 year career.
You know Hegseth needs her present at all times to monitor his alcohol intake, and still she’s likely failing miserably. Utterly pathetic the accommodations made for these failed-up losers.
TBF there's a bit of a precedent for that. When I worked at the US Dept. of Labor, after W Bush appointed Elaine Chao (Mrs. Mitch McConnell) as Secretary of Labor, her 1st official act was to install her hairdresser & her publicist as permanent GS-14 senior staff.
Yep. There is certainly precedent. After all, even janitors at the CIA or NSA have to possess clearance to work in the office
But if one goes deeper down that rabbit hole, the question then becomes "what level of security clearance will they receive?" and "will they be put into a chain of command?"
With folks like hairdressers & publicists, they aren't given hi-level security clearances nor are they in the chain of command. They just show up at Cabinet meetings & in-office meetings as supporting staff to their Secretary & hopefully don't collect what they see/hear for future sale.
In this one? Where sec def's wife, personal lawyer, brother, and others are already getting access to some of the most sensitive information we have? And where rank, service, and ability don't mean as much as perceived loyalty?
I wrote and deleted this response like ten times. I got nothing, younz. Nothing. The level of dysfunction -to keep it PG13- of this administration has left me stumped and staring blankly at the wall.
His wife is located in Tennesee & lawyer in VA so could charges for fraud (he lied about content of the chats & who was included), against the law in any state, be brought in either TN or VA courts? Could all others included in the chats be charged as accomplices in those state courts avoiding DOJ?
I was married to a cheater. He involved me heavily in all his work stuff to make it seem like he was trustworthy and wouldn’t cheat on me. This feels a lot like that to me. He’s trying way too hard.

Does he talk in a drunken stooper?
That’s all. That’s the response. 🙄

So he could claim she had one
I wonder if his therapist and AA Sponsor has one too
Do you really want him picking up the phone, when he’s hammered?!?
If he can’t leak war secrets nobody can!
Pete! Pete! The Lying King’s choice!
Our military personnel really have no voice!
I don't see the pentagon helping them to clear that paper trail.

Such constant supervision from his spouse.
She can’t trust him - but they expect the country too….fascinating
Wonder, seriously, what they use for "need to know"?
JFC.
a) is a total loon
b) brought his mom with him to tell senators to confirm him cus he's such a nice boy

Even if she held a TS/SCI - what was her role and why did she need this information?

Who knows. 🤷
Smart money is that his bartender got SCI clearance on day 1.
