Many doctors still believe black women don’t feel as much pain or can endure more pain than others. So the living in their care will also endure unnecessary pain.
I think we also need to talk about women being the ‘majority’ of the population in the US, so the words male and man should be banned in publications and all documents should refer to women… male is DEI!
I’m 42 years old, and I didn’t know what a clitoris looked like until I was in my 20’s, because that’s the first time anyone really bothered to study it like that.
Seems like every year I learn about some new healthcare issue affecting women that we know almost nothing about and it's just now being researched. Mind blowing tragedy
From an incredible team continuing to track the effect that abortion bans are having on women's health is this article titled: Texas Won’t Study How Its Abortion Ban Impacts Women, So We Did
I mean, they don't. Not to pile on! I know you know this! But they've been real real clear that women exist for male pleasure and breeding, and only white men are human beings at all.
ooh good point I'm not sure they're thinking this one through fully (ha). I think maybe they're wistful for the olden days when wives were kinda disposable: she dies in childbirth, you get a new younger one, win-win amirite
This is it exactly, lots of far right religions out there will still happily tell you the biblical age of marriage is 12 and women are supposed to die in childbirth for eve’s sin. Always sounded like excuses for sadism and pedophilia, but we never cared as a culture to look into it.
Like as a Black woman I obviously care about racial inequities in healthcare. But until like 20 years ago women were treated like mini men and we're not?
Everyone chiming in "and people of color", I hear you but the difference between a Black man and a white man is smaller than the difference between a man and a woman.
I'm not saying those differences don't matter but I am saying I'm focusing on sex for a reason here.
Current racism and differences on wealth that emerge from historical racism too, right? People with money always have better health than people without it, even in countries with free healthcare, although the difference must be much smaller.
Not gonna lie, as a POC man I initially frowned at this comment but upon learning you're also a POC and not white, I'll admit that your comment hit differently in a way that made sense to me. I appreciate your commentary on this issue, it helped me learn.
I have studied these issues for decades. Sex and gender matter in health; there is a massive gender health gap. There is also a racial health gap. Both are intertwined and in different ways depending on the health issue. Inequalities are lethal. All of them. And in particular poverty
Did you know that black people are less likely to be given or prescribed pain medication in hospitals, and by doctors. Since we’re the same, we all feel the same pain. Racism is real. Science sets us free.
How great was it to see so many brilliant beautiful black people at the White House celebrating Black history month on Thursday?
Weird democrats and msnbc, cnn, abc, nbc, cbs, wgn didn’t mention that hundreds of African Americans were being honored and having such a joyous event.
“A federal judge in Maryland on Friday blocked the Trump administration from terminating federal grants and contracts related to DEI as called for in executive orders signed by President Donald Trump.”
Don’t you get it? Republicans hate women. Check out the ‘save’ act where if your current name is different from your birth name you won’t be able to vote. IVF is being cancelled. Abortion rights.
Death and decreased quality of life in anyone not white, male, or wealthy is a feature for these folks. Wealthy women can get concierge medical care based upon science being done in first world countries. If their man chooses, of course.
I was using Ambien for years before my doctor abruptly told me that new evidence came out that states women metabolize it more slowly so it lingers in their system much longer than in a man's, and that meant my dosage needed to be HALVED.
Except by that point I was used to the higher dose.
So we went back and forth on it and she decided to leave me at the 10mg dosage, and for me specifically it was fine, but jfc that this happened at all????
Also, given the way intersectionality occurs, many of the women dying will be disproportionately Black and Indigenous.
E.g., research into Black maternal mortality will surely be impacted.

They absolutely do. They want us terrified to get pregnant and have nothing to do about it when we do, whether we want to be or not. And when we die so much the better. If she had been more pious and more focused on the home God would have spared her and her child. Or some other bullshit.
Yeah, these white nationalist Nazis want women to be obedient, quiet, domesticated, good to look at, & pleasing. They don't want public education bc they want to indoctrinate kids into the same way of thinking so they never question; today's type of public education puts other ideas in kids' heads.
As a person who has suffered from advanced pcos somehow since elementary school, I already know what it means to have your reproductive organs considered inherently disordered and to get subpar medical treatment due to medical sexism. It almost killed me in 2020.
Because the blanket pressure to yank funding from any research that even looks at words like "gender" means that studies focused on women's health are disproportionately affected.
I had surgery to rule out uterine cancer this week (negative), and this topic has been very much on my mind. Medicine already fails women in so many areas, inexcusably. We fight for our lives to receive informed care. A disgrace.
And we have barely scratched the surface of women’s healthcare. We can’t even detect endometriosis without surgery yet. Unless you’re seasoned and skilled from my understanding.
and non-white patients never get an oxymeter that works, and another generation of physicians will remain convinced that Black people have a higher pain threshold. Soon we'll be back to tests normed on 700 white Minnesotans, like the infernal MMPI-I that ruined lives for decads
Anti-science is absolutely going to kill people, especially women. Maternal mortality rate was ~5-10% in the 1800s. Then in the 1930s, there was a *drastic* drop in maternal mortality. The reason? Antibiotics and vaccines.

Yes, we do need to be keeping track of what happens to women's health
Taking their inadequacies and frustrations out on women is a big part of every white male maga losers’ fantasies.
Be careful women in STEM.
They're openly saying they don't care about half of the country's population.
(I'm so, so sorry for the necrophilia joke, but truly revolting dark humour is my go-to)
I'm not saying those differences don't matter but I am saying I'm focusing on sex for a reason here.
But... there's a reason that Black women die from complications of childbirth so much more often than white women do.

women are a minoritized majority
Companies don't fix errors that don't cost them. And they don't think women have individual value. So the cost of dead women is acceptable.

"But when your big data is corrupted by big silences, the truths you get are half-truths at best. And often, for women, they aren't true at all."
That seems to be a real theme that runs through everything they're doing.
