FOR REAL. Farming, sewing, construction, cleaning... all things that have huge skill sets and knowledge bases that we have zero respect for as a country. We are not ready and no one wants to pay what it would cost to make us ready.
I was raised by the kind of hippies who went and just lived off the grid in the late 60s/early 70s so my childhood involved learning to do all of these things as well, though I am a deep disappointment to most of the family since I'm mid-to-sucky at all of it. 🤣
Some people are just not good at the manual labor stuff, I'm okay at moving boxes and things like that, but anything that requires dexterity or following a pattern, I'm completely 100% useless
For me it was the "Foxfire" series of books on my parents' bookshelf- flipping through and... "holy crap, you can make your own soap?!?" That and the Whole Earth Catalogue were my pre-internet rabbit holes.
