I'd never heard of half and half before visiting America. I was glad to see the breakfast buffet had something like cocoa pops. I was amazed by how 'creamy' the milk was. I now recreate this at home on Sundays.

No lie, half-and-half was my addiction when I visited the US in 2006. I drank a litre a day, no joke. Now we have much creamier milk options in Aus, and they are all I buy, cholesterol be damned. Fat = flavour.
On visiting California my host dared me to find normal milk in a supermarket aisle. I can't remember what was most basic; probably vitamin D enriched. Plain milk didn't seem to exist.
