I always check if any eggs in the supermarket have caused newborn chicks to be dropped live into a grinder, gassed to death, or suffocated en masse. They always have as a necessary part of the hatchery system, so I never buy them.

I still manage to enjoy breakfast.

True story, 1938 : my father was sent to fetch some eggs from a local farm in Kent by his mother. He went with his young brother on his bike. On the way back he fell off and all the eggs broke.

His reply to his mother's question was: 'the farmer only had broken ones'.
