I don't really believe in holding nuclear weapons, but now? Thank God Blair and Brown didn't get rid of them when they thought seriously about doing just that.

Just a passing thought, not a serious line of thinking. ..but I wonder if the missiles, in spite of being controlled by the sub, have, nevertheless, embedded in their firmware a blocking of attempts to target the USA. That would make sense.
Aren't the UK's nukes basically controlled by the Americans? Rather like Ukraine's Starlink comms. We've got the kit, but they can switch it off any time.
Hm. Anything that relies on the Amer8cans right now is unreliable.
BTW @snellarthur.bsky.social had UK MP & military analyst Mike Martin talking abt European defence after NATO on his excellent "Behind the Lines" podcast this week. Very sobering but not hopeless.
A sub commander can launch them, subject to agreement of two other officers on board. There's no American permission in the process and nor can the Americans - or even the British for that matter - remotely switch them off.

...this is how "we" US VOTERS end WWII and The Cold War.
.
UK VOTERS should, like us, determine if the British Army & RAF should fight, kill and bleed for French investors and German investors in Eastern Europe.

We Americans have given our answer.

Glad the French have theirs, though.
