they're mad at Bishop Budde for asking for mercy, which is interesting to me. "mercy" situates Trump in a position of power. you don't ask for mercy from someone weak or impotent. they truly just hate compassion itself lol

Hadn't thought of that. They definitely do hate compassion. They also hate the fact that, by simply asking, the bishop was acknowledging that they are the type of people who hurt people and they did not like that being broadcasted in such a way.
Literally. Her whole homily was respectful of him, and acknowledged the weight of his position as the most powerful man alive. Imagine reading this and thinking the speaker is “nasty.” He’s not right in the head or the heart.
You are of course correct. He is a man with a serious personality issues. If I were to put a name to it I’d say it was a paranoid personality disorder. In a sane world he would be an inmate in an institution, instead he is in the White House.
She also dared to specifically name the people Trump & his thugs want to persecute, stripping away the dehumanization that is necessary for people to accept it.
This. A Christian response, by nature, should leave the speaker in the “one-down” position. Christianity that tries to assert dominance just turns into MAGA-ness. Jesus went to a literal cross, not a throne — so any throne we place him on must remain metaphorical.
Because, he understood on some level that she was embodying an inner strength he is incapable of. Trump doesn't want people of integrity and resolve asking for him to be a better person, he wants groveling loyalists willing to humiliate and abase themselves for his favor.
I've always said Republicans only feel empathy for their immediate family and friends, while Democrats feel empathy for people they've never met in places they'll never go.
She fawned. A well known tacit every survivor tries & eventually learns it doesn’t mitigate their abusers contempt. No matter your behavior, they don’t respect you. Appealing to their empathy, hoping they’ll recognize ur humanity if u acknowledge their position of power, is an exercise in futility.

Give him "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God."
Mercy goes against their values, yes, but also the fact it was confronted - the open defiance - that challenged their image of control.
