Frankly, I think reading the Bible in translation and trying to map it to the modern world without any deeper investigation into who was who historically, and what the context was in which this stuff was happening is not only futile, but dangerous.

Their shittiness is not made more shitty or less shitty by virtue of being similar or dissimilar to the teachings of Jesus. I don’t care if ISIS puts too much olive oil in their hummus, and I don’t care if fascists are “christlike.” The fascism is the problem.

Modern Judaism is Phariseeic Judaism. The Pharisees changed Judaism from temple-centered to Torah centered after Rome destroyed the temple. We Jews are their grateful descendants.
