I would be delighted to just tell him that we were going to send himbto mars and then locking him up in a pretend rocket with no way out, or even blasting it off into space if we could do so in an environmentally benign way.

If he survived the 7-year journey (he might not) the harsh environment would likely kill him in a day or so. That said, I have left a standing offer to drive him to the launchpad when he’s ready to go.
