And the mentalities are completely different, and shape who you are. Service trains you to think about others needs, and get satisfaction from meeting those needs. Business trains you to think about profit, and get satisfaction from that. Only one of those POVs is suitable for government.

The Founders established our Government for the "Common Good". Government's purpose was to do things that individuals or small towns couldn't do. They established the Post Office, improvements to roads and rivers, eventually Public Education, our common defense, and 90 years ago Public Health.

I originally had some feelings that government could be run more like a business. Then I served 8 years on my town Board of Selectmen. You have to try to make supply (service) equal to demand (what the public wants), yet you have little to no control over costs or income. You get a budget, period.

In an ideal world government is a service. However and unfortunately, lobbyists have always treated government as a business. The business of buying elected officials to do their bidding over that of the electorate who put them in office. Until buying politicians is outlawed nothing will change.

I just wish we had proper education for the children so they would learn this properly. It's been downhill for decades. It's going to get much worse as our education continues to plummet.
