They're trying to say art is hard? Yeah, no kidding. And a lot of people who are good at it now kept going despite the struggle.

But I think AI "artists" are hopeless as real creatives, not because they lack natural talent, but because they don't understand the joy of the process.

So, to recap, they cannot be artists, not just because they cannot draw and have no wish to learn, but because they do not understand the value of the process, cannot take criticism, lack analytical skills and do not seem to know what they do not know, and will not do the drills.

My daughter is an artist and a good one, imo, obviously. She never uses AI because art is a passion and she uses it to process her emotions. She’s autistic, so it’s very helpful for her to express herself in this way.
This was my Christmas gift.

I think the thing that really gets me about this is that there really is no angle from which it's defensible. Like you pointed out, the idea of only having a mouse to create art with but not a pencil is just so beyond absurd, and you also absolutely CAN create art with just a mouse without using AI.

I do feel like this is what so much of the AI art argument comes down to for people who use it. They're entitled. They think wanting something makes them automatically entitled to it and that they shouldn't have to pay for it or learn how to do it.

Like, yeah, as someone who's poor and who grew up poor, I get it. Decent art supplies can be expensive, or at least not affordable, when you're broke. You can create art with cheap supplies, but it's not necessarily going to look that way you want it to (depending on what you're going for of course)

For one thing, a lot of real art styles can use mouse and keyboard. Pixel artists for example.

More importantly, they didn't use a mouse and keyboard to create art. A program mimicked someone else's art. That's AI art. lol

At the games company where I started out we had to learn to draw with a mouse, it wasn’t easy (especially given the clunky mouse of the early 90s Amigas we used) but completely doable with a bit of practise.

Because a mouse can rest in place better than a pen or finger, it's great for matching an outline (like if you're marqueeing) by going shift-click over and over. I haven't had a ball mouse since forever, but once in a while I miss having one just for that.
