This is very difficult though. Emotionally you think about the US as untrustworthy and run by a crime family. And too illiterate for a functional democracy. Not an ally. It may take 10 years to get autonomy; worth to pursue. On the other hand you play into Putin's game of tearing NATO apart.

European leaders will now discuss how quickly they need to ramp up defence spending and what might be a durable security guarantee to Ukraine. But the damage is done; the oppressor will be rewarded. The question they need to be asking: how can we credibly stop Putin from using the same tactic again?

Weak USA in Ukraine is a win-win situation for Putin.
NATO turns out to be a paper tiger and a Putin-dominated Europe is a more dangerous opponent for the US.
