Since there’s no casing, would it be advisable to poke holes in such a thing for its marinade? So it has less carrotness? Not that I support carrot-as-dog activity.
Why would you consider trying that recipe? It's just awful. I use liquid smoke and I use the same amount that she used in about 10 years. Or probably less.
This recipe has been passed around vegan forums for ages. I've never tried it, and it always looked like I wouldn't want to try it, but people whose food opinions I usually trust have said it's pretty good, so I'm slightly curious. Not yet curious enough to actually make it, though.

I have made these before and they are good but you gotta marinate them for at least an hour and cook til they're soft.
