this will never stop driving me up a wall. we have historical evidence that people understood that congress did not need to pass additional legislation to disqualify insurrectionists. thousands of people proactively requested amnesty to run for office in the south. and then congress passed amnesty!!

truly there were *reasons* for adding a 'don't let a motherfucker who did an insurrection hold office again' provision to the Constitution, such as, 'that motherfucker clearly cannot be trusted with the powers of the office!'
