My 4 day old chicks have progressed to the the big leg STREEECCCH and then zoomies all over the place. It's really lovely to watch when I need a break from the... well all of this.
I took a shower and felt a whole lot less gross afterward. I watered some plants. They've grown a little bit. The sun went down today very close to the same time as yesterday.
My dog has gotten a lot more talkative in the past month or so, so she started whimpering at me today so I could take her out for a walk. She likes her routines as much as I do!
Dog has a vet appointment this morning, healthy except she needs a dental cleaning. How she manages to stay healthy while eating so many non-food items is a mystery.
It’s the 14th week of the semester so, like clockwork, everyone (or their grandma) is getting sick and is emailing for extensions. And I’m happy to give them because it’s one less thing to grade cuz I’m still lugging around ungraded papers from week 11. All very predictable despite my best efforts.
It has been raining most days for the past week (usual for this time of year where I live), there are baby birds cheeping behind the defunct exhaust fan in my kitchen, and squirrels keep digging in my planters.
Every single day, I get hungry and have to figure out dinner. Like clockwork! Also my dogs know exactly what time breakfast and dinner should be and start harassing me at least an hour before each.
👆👆👆Most underrated sosh post in the past 9 years!! 🔥 (do we have a name for posts on BlueSky yet?? flutters?? flits?? anyone?? *yelling into the abyss*)
i spackled the myriad holes in the walls of my now former-apartment and am getting the full security deposit back - a bit unprecedented given the general shittiness of LA landlords, so not sure this counts
i refuse to clean the oven unless it has an auto-clean function and until now it never has so it is certainly unprecedented for me lol, congratulations
my oven has an autoclean function, but that entails deliberately overriding its maximum temperature, & the fumes produced were so awful & frightening that i only ever activated it once. My house is 80 yrs old and made entirely of wood. I think i'll stick to baking soda and a Drill Brush
My mom used self clean when she got a new upstairs gas stove at the farm. 3 years in, had to call in service guys because the oven quit. After an EXTENDED time (like, over a month!) it got fixed, service lead told her to not use function, it was too hard on the components and shortened oven life.
Yeah, i had that thought too. my oven's electric but still, it's only meant to do 550 F for short periods, if that. Even tho self-clean has to bypass the thermostat, it'll still probably damage it. 800F is getting into woodstove or ceramic-kiln territory
The service was a RIDE because she had one of the first of the make/model gas stove, I think they got it in AB, nobody in Sask was trained to service it, so they had to order parts & then bring in a service lead from somewhere to train 4 or 5 guys on these gas stoves. What I remember best, tho…
…is that she used our BBQ (also gas, thank goodness) as an oven for a month at least. It was summer, so less heat, but she figured out how to do anything in that thing. Roasts, sure. She baked pies in that BBQ! Cookies! Buns! And she never used it, dad was the griller.
Yeah i tried it shortly after moving in here, no idea when the previous occupants had done so, if ever. For similar reasons, i've stayed away from the convection function as well.
Also - 3 boys in my class regularly hide each other’s school supplies when they’re not looking (I let them play this game - it’s harmless, and all 3 are in on it).
Started up again this week, and I thought, yep, this is the life. 👍☕️
This morning, Talisker (one of our cats a big ginger fluffball) wanted to be let out, then in, then out again, in the space of ten minutes. That sort of thing?
All the flowers in my neighborhood are blooming, and the weather can't decide whether it's sunny or rainy, which is right on time for the Seattle area!
In all areas, it's Stupid Bird Season! A lot of young birds have just fledged and they're out and about making Teenager Decisions!
Comments
I am also watching the non-stop Eurovision hits livestream on YouTube.
It was, as they say, pretty rad.
I had no idea as a kid what my parents were grappling with.
My students are actually excited about their research projects! Then groaned when we had to take notes.
So predictable it was soothing. 🤣
