As journalists we cannot put our finger on the scale for or against a candidate by reporting on their exact words and the clear meaning of those exact words and the way that all of that candidate's policies and political achievements align with that rhetoric. That would be bias.

Micro-thread here, but this makes me think about something.

In Canada we have more than two political parties that factor into politics, but we *do* only have two major telecomm companies with only a handful of minor ones. While they have loyalty incentives, they also incentivize switching over.

In spite of this and the two companies (Bell and Rogers) being in direct competition, they also are clearly working together to fix prices, since together they basically hold a monopoly, especially in rural areas where minor providers aren't an option. You pick red (Rogers), blue (Bell), or nothing.

If one company ever gained too much of an advantage they might stop offering switching incentives, or at least not offer them at the same level. They might also rollback loyalty incentives. If the duopoly became a true monopoly it would cause problems.

Indeed, they seek balance, not merely by attriting an equal number of negative stories to the anti-Trump, but by reporting in a manner that creates balance in the polls. Also, they work the poll numbers to express “balance.” DC journos are mentally ill.
