I think there's a little more there, there: moving off ICEs will require people to make changes: raise the price of gas, buy EV's, add charging to their homes and force them to deal with an app to find charging stations. It's why they're "conservative." Change = Bad. Also, they don't 'see' climate.

I suppose that's fair. Heck I do that as well, but I like to think the "elite" I defer to are knowledgeable people in their particular field and I only need enough education in the area to do a 'sniff' test.

Surprised how little marketing is considered in this equation. The vast majority of (very expensive) automobile ads push ICE powered SUV's and pickup trucks. Manufacturers are in no hurry to see the world convert to EV's - which would end dealerships' ICE maintenance cash-cow. (oil changes etc)

The current winners of fossil capitalism don't want to give up their investments in the extraction infrastructure which makes them obscenely wealthy.
That the system allows them to use their vast wealth to capture the levers of power is the actual problem. The public feel climate change daily.

And I would hazard a guess, much of their personal investments are in the very industries who either need to be phased out or need major overhauls in the effort of saving this planet.
