One Sunday in 1960, we went into the church hall after Mass and stood in line to get our little sugar cube that contained the brand new polio vaccine. It seemed weird and fun, but I remember wondering why Mom seemed so excited and happy.
I have kept up, faithfully, on all the COVID vaccines and boosters. In spite of that, I've had it twice now. Got it just two weeks ago, two months after getting the new and improved vaccine. It's not fun. But the vaccine did keep me from getting extremely sick. Please don't let your guard down. :)
The first time, it was like a run-of-the-mill head cold. I was 100% functional. This last time, though... it kicked my butt, and I was in bed (out of town, by the way) for about a week. Took Paxlovid. Did not help. Two days after testing neg, I ended up in the ER with tachycardia.
God blessed humans with the gift of reason, a natural medicine God gave to help us! People like the GOP and Nazi Republicans throw this gift back in Godβs face. Instead of thanking God, they insult Him by rejecting his gifts. Itβs like they donβt believe in Godβs grace at all
As a nurse who began in 1973, I have provided care to those that had those diseases or the sequellae. Many lost their lives, or suffered long term loss of function.
I lost hearing in rt ear from measles. My cousin developed encephalitis & was cognitively impaired. Meningitis killed my in law age 4.
Polio survivor here. I was one of the lucky ones infected with a milder strain. Still, that involved 2 yrs of intensive physical therapy and wearing a back brace. And yes, pls vax and mask vs Covid.
One of my friends in grammar school succumbed to polio in less than 3 months before the first polio shot came to our school. Later was even easier to get the vaccine because it was given in a sugar cube
Still have the scar on my left arm I went to Elm Grove Elementary school in Missouri to get the Vaccine this was in early 60βs remember standing in line !

Four of my sweet aunties had polio before I was born and what they went thru as young women was horrific. I used to listen to their stories and was so relieved when we got our βsugar cubesβ so it wouldnβt happen to us.
You know when parents say βI want to give my kids what I didnβt haveβ, I never thought they meant highly communicable deadly diseases - but here we are.
Maybe theyβre not so crazy Iβm still magnetic following my Covid vaccine. Try going to a diner where everybody thinks youβre stealing the flatware.
I remember as a kid standing in line at the elementary school waiting to get my sugar cube in a little cup. I also had a cousin who had a deformed arm because he had polio.
I remember being in the hospital with the measles when I was young. That was before MMR. I was a pretty sick kid. I also remember my mom being afraid of polio and made sure I got that vaccine as soon as it was available.
I remember standing in line with my mother to get the first polio shot and then the Sabin sugar cube with the booster. (worried that it was the placebo) The threat of polio curtailed many times being with friends.
They know vaccines work. The entire point behind stopping vaccines is the deaths it will cause. These people are of the mindset, that if you're alive because of vaccines, you're an abomination that should've been weeded out. They only pretend to doubt their efficacy to garner support from fools.
In 1955 my brother & I were taken to a cottage in Maine for the summer to escape the rage of Polio in Boston. We were not vaccinated. We eventually got the vaccine. We can't possibly be "GOING BACK"
Had 3 younger families and 1 older woman at my activity cart about viruses and #vaccines.
The woman described what it was like growing up in fear of #polio.
She ended by remarking, β I donβt understand why young parents are so afraid of something my parents were *grateful* to finally have.β

Thank you Rotary International for working to eradicate polio worldwide.
Yeah, I thought so.
They were 17 & 18 when I was born.

Me: "Would you get the polio vaccine"?
Anti-vaxxer: "I will have to think about that. I have never met anyone with polio".
(dumb f-cks live among us)
