7 years ago I had Lasik and it was the best thing I've ever done.
I was traumatized in the sand box as a child, and very few things are allowed to get that close to my eyes
What you have to remember is there is NO SENSATION on the eyeballs. It's only pressure. Avoid long fingernails and you'll be fine.
Sometimes they don't go in first try, so I usually have to put back in the solution and try again. Sometimes one won't sit right, so chuck it and try another (frustrating). You may also want to try different types as some let more oxygen in to your eye.
Also if your eye is burning and not settling down, you might want to remove, flush with eyedrops and try a new lense after a short wait.
Good luck, they can be a pain.
Mention it to your optician - maybe you have dry eyes or your technique have a risk of getting them dirty.
What did you look like in spectacles? I'm guessing you'd have looked like the Starfleet Academy Chief Librarian. Nobody messes with the Librarian! :)
