If Donald Trump follows through on his promised tariffs, the United States will likely trade much, much less with other countries. But what about the rest of the world?

Yes. There remain strong conservative U.S.Senators who will talk with 45. He’s not immune to the power of national business leaders who funded his campaign, nor can he ignore his biggest donors who control the media who are donors and boosters. 💙🇺🇸💙
I’ve been looking for ANY bright side these days, and I’ve gotta say that it’s very refreshing to not have to explain what a tariff means, and who has to pay it. Thank you, @BlueSky. It’s nice to be here.
The rest of the world is gearing up for big things in international trade. A couple recent examples are the proposal for a new canal through southern Mexico, and the collaboration between China and Peru on a new mega-port that will significantly boost Chinese-Latin American trade.
NATO is a defensive treaty that works as an effective deterrant against hostile foreign powers. An attack on one NATO member is an attack on all, and that's the reason Russia hasn't invaded any of the Baltic nations in recent memory—France and the UK have nukes, and nobody wants to go full M.A.D.
NATO benefits no one but the US. It keeps Europe subservient to America's demands, damages the EU economy and keeps Europe perpetually involved in war with those made up enemies.
Globalization, particularly without tariffs, actually promotes peace for the simple reason that every commodity is available for purchase and sale to any buyer anywhere. Nationalism makes less sense because capital can flow to wherever production makes sense.
Not only that, The US lost the trade war to China, who is already making deals with the EU. The US lost the trust of many Nations but look at the bright side the Taliban are congratulating the US: https://youtu.be/fTHDBcXaNOc?si=GayWsMflSJoH-KYR
Trumps peeps have no world view, 100% nationalists. the unintentional consequences from their ill conceived policies will end badly for global trade. inflation in america is primed to blast off. we are in trouble and there is no one to blame but trumpers.
The US will be missed but globalisation will continue.
China will pick up what is lost. Territory conflicts, human rights abuses and cold war conditions will become a footnote if trade needs to be revived without America. No one wants to align with Trump.
This is extremely naive
Globalization will not continue without the US.
People dramatically underestimate the US Navy role in keeping shipping lanes undisturbed.
The US dollar as a currency reserve.
The horrific demographics facing most of the developed world outside the US - most especially China
Trump won’t allow the US Navy to protect western democracy shipping. He’ll defund anything trade related unless its to Russia or Israel.
The world learned last time his MO is chaos. Why jeopardise our economies again?
Australia is already making overtures to China - the largest trading partner.
That’s why I said people underestimate the impact of not having the US Navy project shipping/trade lanes.
Global trade will shrink, the supply chains will crack - everyone will suffer, including the US but relative to others less so - in large part due to demographics.
It will not be filled, there is no one to fill it - neither economically nor militarily.
China has massive internal issues from the world worst demographics to a crumbling economy.
BRICS? lol come on pls.
Of course Trump is a fool, and he’s about to catastrophic damage to global trade.
I hope you are correct. I think the BRICS is a worthless pipe dream of a bunch of failed Marxists looking for something to give hope to the poor citizens of countries where Marxism has otherwise failed. But in Trump they have found a useful idiot who could bring their dreams close to reality.
At this point I'm just gonna get my popcorn and watch the shit show. I warned the conservatives this would happen. Anything to own the libs ammirite? 🍿
An interesting scenario: If the U.S. turns inward, will other nations create stronger trade alliances to fill the gap? The global marketplace doesn’t pause—it pivots.
There's 195 countries in the world. There are a lot of other trade deals to be had.
Donald can trade with himself import goods and not put a tariff on his company, you know the Donald it's all about making a buck.
The void created by Trump's terrifs will be filled by the output of other - European - firms. The result will be that U.S. firms will face reduced trade and far more aggressive competition.
Far be it for me, an arm chair economist, but the EU & BRIC countries are poised to fill the vacuum & Conservatives will wake up eventually & say “Wot happened?”
Trump will indeed do unimaginable damage to the US in a variety of ways. However there is no country or bloc able to replace the US - either economically or militarily.
The US will be diminished but less relative to everyone else.
People keep forgetting that globalism increases climate change...less transatlantic and more localized production is going to be the new normal regardless of who gets elected POTUS.
The change over will only happen as fast as inflation allows...

Running on his ignorance only helps us at the midterms.😉
Not a canal in Mexico, a coast to coast train system (the Interoceanic Corridor) connecting two port cities!
Dissolve NATO

Made up enemies?

I am definitely not a consumer of propaganda.

This is not a 4 yr problem.
