Good to see but still some barriers. Notably for a conference of this size & cost & which is essentially always during Easter break it remains very disappointing that there is no childcare which creates a barrier for many people to fully participate in the conference.

Agree. Discussed this last night w/ Katharina L @clinmicrobugs.bsky.social who came w/ her 3 kids & must 'split' #ESCMIDGlobal attendance w/ her husband @cihanpapan.bsky.social (one of my favorite feminists). Children not allowed onsite. It's is a venue/insurance thing but we must do better. #IDSky

Yes, completely agree, and mentioned the same in another thread. The ESCMID conference dates are always a whack-a-mole experience of whether they overlap with school term or not. Though it creates problems either way TBH.

Tho if overlaps with school holidays, I don't think necessarily need for family to attend talks etc (I couldn't pay attention at all!!) but surely for the volume of people coming, there must be a business case for some local childcare providers to offer some form of childcare / camp experience?

There wasn't childcare at ECCMID 2024 - I think having childcare is the exception not the rule.

No childcare in 2012 when I took a babe in arms. @fisconf.bsky.social we offered one year but it was under used. Instead we are encouraging people to apply for a conference grant to cover additional childcare costs, eg extra nursery days or bringing a +1 helper
