The worst thing about this, we have so many examples of why doing things like this are so wrong. From Jim Crowe in the US to the very beginning of the entire holocaust in Germany. I never thought we'd follow both examples because some plagiarizing children's author said so, it's astounding.

Goes back long before colonialism. Modern racism is kind of a colonial era thing, but sexism and gender roles, which all link directly to trans and homophobia go much farther back. As does anti-Semitism, since the Holocaust was mentioned.

The idea of divinely ordained hierarchy predated colonialism, but the Enlightenment concept of naturally ordained hierarchy was key to it and underlies a lot of what we are seeing today I think.

If you believe in patriarchy and are presented with the idea of naturally ordained hierarchy, you will project patriarchy into it as an example of why it is right (and thus also with other pre-Enlightenment biases).
