I suspect the red states will be looking a bit more apocalyptic in the near future and should be avoided. Given the political & economic chaos train that is coming, I suspect a rapid deterioration into anarchy and lawlessness.
It's been underway for a long time, but my home state of WV will have closed 50 public schools in 5 years by the next budget vote. Thanks to a pointless voucher program. The governor says he is proud of the school closures, many of which lead to towns and services like EMS also being dissolved.
I've already noticed the red hats are rare, even in places I expected to see them. But gunfights in the checkout line at Walmart are as popular as ever...
Mine, too, and for the same reasons, Christopher. We made that mistake the first time going back to DC right after moving to FL. We decided to see small town FL. Harassed, followed for miles, and flipped off, Good times. 😂
What the hell were we thinking!
That's exactly what it's like… You ain't got to be no coastal elite to see that "the birds" like phenomenon. They look alike, sound alike, and they flock together screaming out tiny words!! So, that's an accurate depiction!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm a worker too but from what I understand the term means a person who is from: more educated areas with liberal outlook - from the coastal Northeast (NY, NJ, on up) and California (on up).
Basically the super blue states, with better education. Go figure, Basically decent education means "elite". I'll take it. Fuck the brainwashed morons.
Unfortunately the average reading level of most of the US is at the 6th grade lvl.
Public 'education' has failed miserably & the incoming administration it's only going to get worse. BUT they'll get a Bible!!!
WTAF I'm in NJ & grateful to be in one of the more liberal 'elite' coastal states.
I can’t even imagine lol.
I remember having nightmares about that playground scene for weeks. I was 8 and fresh off being previously traumatized by “Psycho.”
As a kid I loved Hitchcock productions and “The Twilight Zone,” but boy did all of it terrify me.
I was a little glutton for punishment 🤣
This is an accurate representation of driving across country via Route 66 (as much as possible) with my brother as caucasians wearing masks in June 2021.
@cwebbonline.com is unfortunately correct. The hostility was palpable ... and other than masks we "blended."
I recognize that I'm a white dude and that insulates me from most of this. But driving through Southern Illinois to my in laws in SE Missouri, it feels different in some of the small towns. And not in a good way.
Just saw an old "Top Gear" highlight episode where the three Brits had to write comments on each other's cars that might inflame people while driving through the American South. Ended with them speeding away from a gas station being chased by angry people in trucks.
I have family from the South, and “what coastal elites expect” here doesn’t seem inaccurate — except that if you *appear* to be their “right kind” you’ll be bombarded with a fake, sickeningly sweet welcome… until their inappropriately nosey questioning determines you’re NOT their kind.
I think the first question most SC natives ask when you are new here is, "What church do you go to?" It makes one very uncomfortable about being atheist.
Oooh. I'm from NE Ohio
A blue dot in a red state. Most of my friends and family are totally anti-trump. It pains me to think that my state is so ignorant.😥
The phrase "coastal elites" is a right wing talking point used to demonize democrats and blue states. I feel dismay when I see it used by our side. Why cede that ground to them?
Yes. My wife and I drove through Georgia in the mid-1990s, and this cartoon brings back a very scary experience getting gas. Funny, the scene is meant as a parody.
And the 70% majority race in this country STILL sees no problem with it.
Enslaved my family in the 1600’s, and my Dad — who enlisted USNavy age 17 on a permission slip after graduating at 16 & served 4 tours wartime — was never fully treated like an American.
Have you ever thought about why and how people have been this way? Have a moment, why? and which way people have become? Any Churches involvement telling "Trump is sent by God?" This is effect of something. where is the cause part?
Yes, no station like Fox 24/7 propaganda machine traditional media and no twitter that does the same thing in cyberspace as well as no supporting pod-cast, for those without both medium. Democrats didn't have all. light bulb invented yet none knows so it gets bankrupt due to no selling.
Exactly.
Deny people information, they will assume the info you give them is correct - even if it's a lie.
Fox News has been outright lying since 2015 -strangely, when Putin upped his disinformation campaign on the US, and Murdoch starting parroting RUssian News
this article is ... The media isn't non-profit charity organization. They are profit organizations. They exist for profits, toward "more profit is better for them." This article seems no touch of reality on who they are : profit organization.
Hey, if you have a subscription, share it with me - can't see what you're talking about; seemed better to put up an overview than all the articles i have explaining how this entire Disinformation World we are now in, is a pretty canny organized network scheme by Putin, not only using the media.
To consider cause as ignorance, way too big gap is. Such as Idaho. Idaho Potato farms are largely run by immigrants Trump declared to deport. Yet Idaho people voted Trump. Tariff? to sell Potatoes oversea is against their financial stability, too. Unless those farms are owned by few, but still.
I don't know exactly why. I have never been to Idaho. But I am very curious why they did that. The work of churches was that strong? bypassing the reasons and financial security to feed themselves? all are against the logic so machine tempering comes out as possible cause...
Have you checked much on Idaho's voting statistics and impacts?
Because we already see weird, truly unusual statistical anomalies happening in the swing states - and other states that have been looked at.
I just got recruited to start doing domestic violence work in a particular county... well, where I live, and there was excitement because they couldn't find anyone else. Of course I'll do it but after i wrapped the call I realized I basically can't go to my neighborhood bar anymore.
But I already don't go, because the last time I did some skinhead lookin dude aggressively tried to buy me drinks in what looked like an effort to either buy my favor or prevent me from going against him as our "conflict of interest" rules are strict. Never was I so happy to pay my own bar tab..
Well, I’m steering clear of America for the next four years. My eldest outright refused to be sent to NYC for a job rotation—"Too much MAGA nonsense going on." Can't argue that.
Chicago is included in 'Yankeedom'
Colin Woodard's book on the 7 Nations
While I do not agree that all of NY and WI are included, the map is pretty accurate.
Not just coastal elites, I am a brown southerner blue-dot-in-a-red-state and I see that EVERYWHERE already. I have a coworker finally remove the anti Biden bumper stickers to put a “Pro God, Pro Gun, Pro Life” on her window. 🤯 gonna be a rough few years (or longer) 😞
We go from the Left Coast to the Other Coast every summer to see family. We are going to drive across Canada. We drove cross country in the US in 2021 and won't do it again. Idaho, Ohio, the Dakotas, were scary and I'm certain it's only gotten worse.
Hell yeah...you can get away with it in Illinois because your license plates blend in. This is Wisconsin from the past summer...take a look at the insane "shrine" on the street view of this pin...it only got worse as I went north from here to get some beer. https://maps.app.goo.gl/CqJFKhCpJY5D1Y5K8
We left Florida as fast as we could. Put our house on the market in Sept 2016 when we saw all the trump signs, sold in '17 and left the state. No regrets...other than we could have tripled our profit on the property...but it was worth getting out of there.
Always the same people. That is why I believe the election was rigged. You couldn't get a ticket to Kamala's rally. Sold out. tRump won? Don't think so.
Trump said to his followers he didn’t need the votes, that he had more than enough
The ones who did vote for him are about to find out the mistake they made
It has such a Zombie apocalypse feel. I am not sure if MAGA eats brains - they seem to have an aversion to grey matter. And, if the police haven’t been called yet to deal with an “invasion of criminals”, the white family got a pass.
I left SC for NC in June. It’s as far south as I want to live
I never met so many mean people as I did in SC & I’ve lived everywhere. They’ll smile to your face & as soon as you leave..they bring out the machetes & it’s to everyone. There’s no one who is safe in SC. Crazy they claim to be religious

Let's change that narrative to "well-educated coastals"

Living in NW Georgia, I can relate...
I said “Nature [is my church]” and the woman asking was rendered speechless.
But I’m sorry I painted all Southerners with that broad brush here. Obviously, there are some very good, decent & genuine people from there.

400 years changed very little, here.
It builds into a self-referential echo chamber that they don't have enough brains to climb out of

Lovers of (false) God, (upside down) flags, colorless society, guns and grievances.

I find those reactions scary in implication too.

One gas station store had ar-15’s & Glocks for sale (probably the only store for a 100 miles or so selling them).

You ain't lying!
