I do think it's just a ? block off the track, but it would be cool if it had a story mode like Crash Team Racing. Honestly it would be the most interesting thing they've done with Mario Kart since the GC

Literally looks like there's an item under Yoshi's nose/at the door. There might be a bunch of coins or items behind it.

There's just nothing outside of the track itself to suggest any reason to drive there imo. If it was open there'd be fun stuff to do off in the distance.

Hard to even see off into the distance in these. I'd just be surprised if they let you drive off into the barren nothingness they've presented here. Very un-nintendo-like given they're the ones that figured out botw map design.

I genuinely do not know what you're talking about. There's a road going right just ahead, boost pads, and then we lose detail from a non-gameplay camera angle but clearly still see things in the distance.

You could be right! Just saying it really looks no different than any other Mario kart track to me, just with a wider track to accommodate 24 racers. Mario kart 8 tracks typically have features in the distance. Doesn't mean you can go there.
