Playoff games should just be playoff games, full stop. The Rose Bowl should never be a third tier game which is exactly what the tournament format makes it when the classics are used as stepping stones, it's so goddamned stupid.

it's conceivable, but they'd have to drastically change the calendar in December. So, no dedicated weekend for conf champ games, no weekend off for Army/Navy. Just go straight from end of regular season to playoffs like FCS.

Playoffs should be top 4 AFTER all bowls are done. That's the best way. The bowls matter again and keep their tradition and we still get a good set of games to determine the champion.

Rose, Sugar, and Orange should always be quarter final games and their traditional conference tie in champs should always be placed in their branch of the bracket, so the big ten champs will always be playing for the Rose bowl and the SEC champ will always be playing for the Sugar.
