I typically try to be a little more poised… that was not the mood today. We went with it anyway 😬
This is one of the few times where I believe your opinion, my opinion, anyone’s opinion TRULY DOESN’T MATTER.

"I don't care who or what else is harmed... because it's good for me"
Jeezus...
Or we can scold people for putting humans before corporate greed. You choose the later.

It's a new tool.
There will always be doubters of new tools.
Human beings don't like change, but they're also very adaptable.
✊🏼
I'm happy that you love AI but, honestly, who gives a fuck?
Sure, it does some good things. But, generally, at the moment it's as useless as a Priest with two peckers for MOST things.
Will that change? Maybe.
Your passion is compelling but weird.
However, we're getting flooded with a lot of low-value junk churned out by AI, and we can suggest that people pushing AI need to be more discriminating in its use instead of spamming the world.
- That doesn't mean it's an efficient use of resources for the problems it purports to solve (i.e. search)
- Nor does that mean that things made more easily with AI should be made with AI (i.e. art)
The left NEEDS to harness it. It has massive utility and this idea that we can just will it out of existence allows people that want to use it for greed to get further ahead.
"My existence currently perpetuates harm," the Bot wrote
after Attiah asked "Why should people engage with you if your entire concept & programming is inaccurate and disrespectful? What is the goal here?"

What are people going to do when they lose their jobs because we can teach a ai platform to do it at zero cost?
Though, I have always questioned Cyberdyn Systems not having a backup - disaster/recovery system in place
No ability to effectively interact...no emotional response.
I guess Mark is good at sniffing out sketchy stuff except when it’s sketchy stuff he created.
It means judging it for being built on a foundation of stolen work, actively harmful to the quality of many fields like writing and art and creative production, and harmful to the people who work in them.
Yes, those substitutes exist and will get used because they're cheaper and more profitable.
But they still destroy people's health and make lives objectively worse for profit.
But when it becomes its own form of content generation, or worse yet a replacement for human intellectual thought, it's a problem which must be addressed. Humans don't need to let computers be the dreamers.
But many people who advocate for its use there don't also push the content creation or the profit off of investments, which are big reasons a lot of people are skeptical of it. Pushing worth is great, pushing value not so much.
I get AI is coming and can be useful as a tool but it shouldn't be seen as a replacement for humans in a multitude of areas. Especially in the art space. It still struggles just to make hands.

Man cannot be free if he does not know that he is subject to necessity, because his freedom is always won in his never wholly successful attempts to liberate himself from necessity.

Seriously ?
That really says it all.

But, much like my attitude towards the current regime, I'm not surrendering.
Not today...
Not tomorrow...
But inevitably, you'll come to a rather unsatisfying and uncomfortable realization...
Because the common denominators are money and power.
Tldr: everything AI makes should immediately be in public domain.
Should those works be relegated to the "public domain" ?
But there are legal and practical fair use cases for using most work: education (of humans), commentary, memes, etc.
Memes are a legitimate form of human communication, and have been for a long time. It's a de facto application of fair use. Every day, worldwide, copyrighted content is remixed into memes.
I'm sorry I lost you there, but it's true.
When this person says "AI is doing this," let's please remember it's "AI developers, and the people who pay them."
Let's not foist off accountability to the computers, please.
AI didn't ask to be made, and AI isn't paying anyone to make it. It's people.
When you go way deep down the rabbit hole, it's not really the AI but quantum computing people should be more concerned about.
Everything has polarity. What has ability to tremendously empower humanity also the same ability to destroy humanity.
What is needed is people who are more educated in AI so they can put in place regulations for it. That is what needs to happen.
In the 90s people were complaining about how they had to learn how to use computers.
This is the same. The genie is out of the bottle.
Definitely could've been nicer about it. But she is right.
The train has left the station. Pandora's box has been opened and there is no closing it.
When the sun rises does it care about our opinion? No, it just is.
Same thing here.
Best thing we can do is mitigate and make sure to put in strong legislation to regulate it.
🙄
Agreed, I don't understand the concept of being "for" or "against" AI. It's a tool, it's here, it's not going anywhere.
Bluesky comment threads are like X
That's the hard to swallow truth.. about social media.
Difference is X is a tool & the megaphone of a nazi billionaire for his hubris.
Second .. most people here are for better world vs. on X
SHOUTING THAT AI IS TRAINED ON STOLEN MATERIAL AND RQUIRES AN UNTENABLE AMOUNT OF RESOURCES TO RUN; IT SHOULD NOT EXIST IN IT'S CURRENT ITERATION, I DON'T *CARE* WHAT IT'S USED FOR, IT NEEDS TO GO!
You don't speak for me...
It's not as if I'm trying to convince you of anything...that would be an exercise in futility.
Understanding that is important, too.
We’ve been here before.

Both things can be true.
A better and more convincing video would have her go through the reasons why banning it are useless because there are so many uses for it and not all are ripping off artists. Stuff like that.
I for one refuse to engage in literally any AI-generated “content,” especially visual “art.”
There are countless actual artists who can do whatever AI does 1,000x better.
AI should replace tedium, not people.
AI "art" is indeed disgusting.
The solution however is MORE people educated in AI being able to put in place regulations.
Also the way to secure digital artwork against AI is of course found in AI encoding.
https://glaze.cs.uchicago.edu/aboutus.html
created a solution to tedium. It’s Ai.
- We can enforce copyright laws against AI companies.
- We can legislate limits and taxes on AI usage.
- We can boycott companies that use AI in ways we oppose.
- We can ban AI-generated content.
The tech isn’t going away, but everything else is still up for debate.
