He also got a baseball-sized Ferrero Rocher out of an Easter basket (foil and chocolate). Thankfully it was hollow, only like 2 ounces of chocolate. No effect on him at all.

He has gotten a lot better about not doing dumb shit now that the puppy/traumatized 2x rescue stuff is out of his brain. He will still clear a plate if my kids walk away from the table and don’t take it to the sink though

After I adopted my last dog but before we fully internalized there were now 2 dogs in the apartment my roommate was baking and took his dog to the living room. My dog took the chance to eat a lb of butter, half a german chocolate cake, and a graham cracker pie crust. No diarrhea.

For the record, if your dog does get into sugar-free gum:

Absolutely douse the food bowl with corn syrup or maple syrup, xylitol crashes their blood sugar so if you can get sugar into them ASAP you can counteract it

Lex did this the first weekend of the pandemic and we saved him this way

Yeah. They called the vet, who had them come over immediately and then they pumped the pup's stomach and kept them under observation for a bit. Apparently it was really bad. And expensive. But the pup survives!

My dog got into chocolate twice, called the vet in a panic both times. They just asked how much she ate and said she'd be fine. Turns out a 60 lb dog has to eat a metric ton of chocolate to be a problem

Yeah, caught my 11 and a half pound puppy tryin' to eat a rock right after her vet said she should only have chew toys that I can dent with a fingernail.
