And yet we do so little to prevent it (generally quite the opposite) in the planning system and how we run public transport, largely I suspect because of the cost. No coincidence that Peel led the opposition to the congestion charge.
More efficient than carrying shopping on a bike. Better than carrying your shopping onto public transport. People aren't going to change their habits until the alternatives are as good, or better, than what we have how.
Really? I live somewhere semi rural and I'd estimate that the extra time of using an e-cargo bike to go to the shops is about five minutes over a car. It costs me £4o to ensure and about 50p to charge for about 60km, and I get fit and to chat to my neighbours oh and it copes easily with the 10% hill
If the average family shopping trip is more than the 70kgs I can carry then I'd be pretty much surprised..
The average family in the Netherlands do most of their day to day activity by bicycle and guess what they're generally, happier and healthier because of it
Bicester village maximizes use of train and shuttle-buses. Still massive car-influx, but a park & ride system (two extra car-parks) to resolve that at peak periods. Trafford even has the tram stopping nearby, this shouldn't be happening.
There is an awkward walk from the tram-stop is there not. A while since I was there. Resolving that would be a starting point, and a temporary carpark set up on the tram-line, for peak periods. The car-park area would benefit from additional custom also...
I'll have to try it some time: I've not been to the Trafford Centre since the tram line opened. Ideally, the tram stop would be inside, under or on top of the centre.
Looking at the map, they would need a temporary park & ride near the M60 also. You can't remove the whole car, but can reduce. Interesting that we have neither of us been there recently, not an easy place to reach...
That new proposed junction on the M62, near Barton Aerodrome/Irlam, that supposes to service Port Salford, could also lead to a P+R near the rugby stadium, then extend the tram line from the Traffic Centre to Irlam with stops on the route for the P+R rugby stadium
Not really. And most of the car parking spaces are a much further walk away through wet and windswept car parks. The short walk from the back of Selfridges to the tram stop has a covered walk way
The service pattern dictates that TC trams start from Deansgate-Cas…not mega awkward but awkward enough for most. Still awaiting TC trams to run through to Crumpsall; this would mean via city centre and make the journey a bit more accessible? I don’t know. 🤷🏻♂️
