I don’t understand why people are running interference for the Biden pardon. Public servants shouldn’t use their positions to benefit themselves or their families. Pretty simple.

After suffering a humiliating loss and handing our system to the man who will possibly destroy it, I kinda get Joe's impulse to live out his twilight years without having his family harassed. I don't think it was "right," but it was very much in line with our coming age of "fuck it, nothing matters"
The point people are making, about how Dems need to give up slavish devotion to norms when fighting Republicans, just doesn’t apply here. That’s for when you’re trying to make public policy changes, not when a specific guy wants to pardon his son because it makes him sad.
Same with people speculating that Trump is going to abuse Hunter by having inmates beat him up in prison or something. Biden didn't say shit about Trump torturing his kid in jail, he's just in deep denial about his son being a crook and is sheltering him the same way he always has!
People excusing it by saying they would do it too. Okay? Thanks for letting me know but that’s bad and I’m going to expect a higher standard out of the president than the one you set for yourself
What's crazy to me is that Joe really doesn't need Dems to carry water for him in the situation at all. Go over to r/conservative and they are saying "hm, makes sense, surprised he didn't do it sooner" -- defending this pardon literally has no upside.
I do not think of it as "running interference" for anyone, I think of it as annoying people that it is pleasurable to see work themselves into a frothy lather
If Biden wanted to use the virtually unlimited power SCOTUS granted him to prove some point, there was plenty he could have done to help regular people. But of course his imagination couldn't go further than pardoning his own family
*explaining to a police officer who’s screaming at me over the phone while I can hear gunfire and a baby wailing in the background* ok but have you heard Hunter’s side
Meh. Trying to do the right thing accomplished nothing. Americans just elected a fascist criminal. Nothing matters anymore. Biden should go do all the crimes. Post all the Epstein papers, fill the west wing full of nuclear waste, airstrike some golf courses, steal the white house silverware.
If he had used his SCOTUS granted immunity for something that impacted the public in a good way, I don't think folks on the left would be quite as pissed about him simply exploiting his powers to benefit him and his family alone.
Funny how norms matter only when hindering the public good.
Understanding what IS HAPPENING NOW? He attempted to PROTECT his Entire family from TrElump vindictiveness? Selfish? Hmm perhaps. Would probably do the same for my family…
Not condoning OR condemning.
Seems like a lot of folks want to cling to "The Democrats want to do good things but believe in norms" when this pardon (and their wider actions) really suggests that Democrats just don't like doing good things.
And yet, The Trump Family Transnational Criminal Enterprise is about to - once again - spend another four years using their public service to benefit themselves and their families grifting millions from the public treasury.

I'm disillusioned with the whole joke. I've only ever voted for "not the insane person", but I'm done with all that mess.
