Developers often seem to do the minimum and no more. Take one such development near Bracklesham Bay in West Sussex. Developers there were told that flood protection had to be built in. They did so. There was one problem though

Whenever there was heavy rain the roads in the development stayed nicely clear. The main road just outside though that goes between Chichester and Wittering is another matter: it often ends up being flooded and all but unusable. Probably avoidable but then the developers simply don't seem to care.

Of course the question of why there are so many new developments being allowed on flood plains and - as you point out - without the required investment - is another matter. It wasn't that long ago in the scheme of things that the army got sent into Chichester to pump the flood water out.

Sewage in our fantastic lakes, beautiful waterways and on our beaches was one of my main motivations at the last election. I was sure Labour would work to stop the widespread dumping of wastewater.
