Made a big pot of spaghetti and meatballs for dinner, and a huge basket of garlic bread. On a scale of 1-10 exactly how bad is it whenever I make this I start talking like a grew up in Bensonhurst? Two glasses of chianti and fuhgeddaboudit!

That’s where I grew up!! What a wonderful shout-out/surprise that you know my old stomping ground ❤️🇮🇹🗽and that’s what we call comfort food! Buon appetito!
You could do a lot worse. I lived the first 3 years of my life in Bensonhurst. In fact. My grandmother lived in the same building for decades and her window overlooked the house they used in the Godfather as Clemenza’s house… when his wife said, “don’t forget the cannolis.”
That's one of the things that make this country ACTUALLY great. I'm a New Jersey Italian American planning to smoke 3 racks of baby backs this weekend. Mixing cultures is what makes us grow.
I just have to just say, I descended from Italians who came to the PNW from Italy, who didn't settle in New Jersey. My grandfather was adamant that we pronounce things correctly. It's 'capicola', not 'gabbagool'. If you ask for gabbagool in Italy no one will know what you're talking about.
There is a great article online about how Italians in New Jersey ended up speaking this very strange jersey Italian. It’s totally worth the read. If you Google Italian American language in Jersey, it should pop up.
Made polpette (meatballs) tonight as well- cuz one of the progeny sent me this photo of his handiwork today -he was a good study. nonna's recipe carries on
When I think of Bensonhurst, I think of the spumoni Gardens best pizza ever, I had cousins in Bensonhurst used to take the train from upper Manhattan to Brooklyn.
Having grown up in Brooklyn, I'll tell you it's perfectly natural, as long as you use fresh garlic, fresh tomatoes, basil, and freshly grated Romano Parmigiano... oh yeah, fuhgeeddaboudit!
Ha my husband loves when I rewatch the Sopranos. My Italian side comes out and he eats well for the duration. Chicken parm with a side of fuggetaboudit! 😂😂
Did you share the pasta dinner with your wife or was that just your portion 🤗? Glad to see you on sky I listen to your commentary almost daily - love your style & Tx size coffee cup!
Grew up on the west coast in the 70’s but we kids knew mom meant business when her Jersey accent surfaced. And her lasagna by the way is still the best. 🥰
Time to re-watch Goodfellas & A Bronx Tale. 😆 Paul Sorvino slicing the garlic - paper thin, with a single edged razor in the can! All the made guys cooking the gravy together! Mama mia!
That's tomorrow's dinner when I'm off. Make my own pasta. Make my own sauce. Make my meatballs. Make my own bread. It's an all day affair for us. Oh, I'm a chef and my wife is spoiled. Oh, and for Dessert it is chocolate mousse bombs...
I know of a torture expert that would remove his subjects' testicles, fry them in front of them and eat them. Believe me when I say there are worse things than death.
Your comfort zone! I grew up in the Philly area and love to talk with people from the east coast, especially Philly. Back to your roots wherever you call home! Wine helps.
Wish I was in Chianti right now! Sitting outside watching the sunset and the non stop vineyard views! Lived in Italy for 3 yrs. Nato base, we made great friends:-)
My grandfather was a civil service chef for the military and owner operated a restaurant, he only knew how to cook in bulk. After he retired he still always cooked every meal to feed like 100 people. I remember watching him cook 50 lbs of spaghetti once in one of those huge civil service pots lol.
If The Godfather Trilogy comes on, I make sauce from scratch, sausage & peppers, drink Burgundy and chop, sauté and stir.
Pacino and Brando were MAGNIFICENT!
🍷💕🥰😎
You’re a goodfella Paul. My family is from all over Italy. Mostly from Lazio & Lombardy. I’m Southside Chicago. You are officially adopted my friend. Sounds like a great meal.
Arrivederci amico mio
A cow had to die for your meal. She wanted to live and experience the beauty and joy of life. But you paid someone to slaughter her and are now eating her flesh. Leave animals off your plate. Show compassion.

Spaghetti goes with eg vongole or other sea food, or various vegetarian sauces

But…
All it takes is a plate of the barbecue and cornbread my wife’s Alabama family serves up, and something just comes over me…
…Y’all! 😁
