I am definitely a lefty and not a liberal. But I was born and raised in the UK and have lived in Canada for the past 40 years: two countries with actual labour parties.

An English family member asked me how the American parties map onto ours:

Democrats: our Tories
Republicans: The National Front

In any country with a real labour movement, Biden, AOC and Bernie would all be in different parties.

Yeah that's how I use it. Using leftist and liberal interchangeably is equivalent to me to using suffragette and nazi interchangeably. Like that's how wildly different the two terms are in practical meaning to me.
