I was driving, and maybe I misread the sign, but I swear I read a billboard outside of Terre Haute, Indiana advertising a place you can rent a fully-automatic rifle…

Indoor range near me does that. I can rent a suppressor too. I've fired enough fully automatic weapons as a soldier. But I can see the attraction for some.
Ugh, I’m so sorry. I was originally going to that protest and at the last minute decided to go to Kokomo because some friends would be there. I can only imagine how scary it was for everyone.
I saw a full auto range in Vegas, and I also saw an ad for a place near Vegas where they would fly you in a helicopter over a remote range and let you fire a mini gun out from the waist door position. Not cheap.
Curious/serious question...Do you know if they do ID checks with that service? Not that I think it matters that much for this type of service, just wondering out loud.
Yes, photo ID and sign a waiver.
I don't know if they run background checks like they would if you were purchasing a firearm, but they have enough info to do so. I think they would have to tell you if they were running a check, but that could easily be buried in the fine print.
I do not know if minors can participate. I think if they had a parent sign for them it would be a go.
I went through a hunter safety course with my kid. They aced the test and did well on all the practical exams. It is a required course here for a concealed carry license.
A class III license is required to possess, buy or sell. Difficult to get. The owner of the weapon is a corporation. BATF can stop by and audit the weapon 24/7
You read it right

Place is called Top Gun or something
They advertise family pack AR 15 on their website or at least used to
The rental I believe is like a giant .50 cal
It shocks me every time I’m back to visit
It'll be real. IIRC the premises or owner needs a Federal Licence - called a "Class IV Licence" if memory serves.
I knew someone who had one of those WW2 surplus M3 half tracks with a quad .50" anti aircraft turret in the back.
Needless to say he also reloaded his own ammunition.
Best descriptor of Terre Haute I ever heard was yelled by a dude exiting the Menards there, description was "this place is hot, dank, and stanky!" Thought I'd share for others familiar with TH
The one that got me was driving through Arizona near what used to be called Uranus Gas, (really, no kidding) and thinking that's cute. Next to it was a sign saying you could shoot a real AR-15 for $10 or some such. Not so cute.
I think it is renting time at an indoor range, rent the rifle, buy the bullets. Very popular in Hawai'i and very pricey for less than a minute of shooting.
Have a guy who does that here, his gun (he has a federal permit), his range, his ammo, charges by the round, I know of guys who have spent $1,000 in an afternoon.
I guess I’m missing what you’re asking/saying. The fact that such a “service” exists is dumb as hell, but it isn’t like taking a book from the library. Also, yes, there are responsible gun owners. I’ve had at least one for thirty years, no issues.
I think they had one of those at a range near me in blue dot louisville, kentucky. however I don't think it's being done anymore because I haven't seen that range advertising since at least covid and maybe even before and they had tv commercials on everywhere.
I mean.. I think at shooting ranges it's possible. I have no idea since I haven't touched a gun since I was a teen, 40 yrs ago. I wouldn't think that they'd want to risk the liability if someone rented a gun then went on a shooting spree but these days anything is possible. It's all weird.🤪
Sounds dystopian and very much Indiana… anyone been on that stretch of I-90 in nothern Indiana where they didn’t bother to build bridges at some exits so they built mirror businesses on both the east bound & west bound sides?
Yup have seen it multiple times. Or the other thing they do is put an oasis on the middle of the Indiana Toll-Road and jack up the prices to gouge folks.

I get why people like to shoot: it's fun
But this situation?
Chris Rock says it best: "Just because you can drive a car with your left foot doesn't make it a good fucking idea"

A short stick must be a real burden 🙄

Trés déclassé
Buy the bullet, rent the gun.
And that might be the least shocking thing you could pay someone for there.
How long until a mass murderer uses this service to carry out their massacre?
While we're witnessing daily how that mediocrity can go wrong.
long story short: that tracks.
