Trump set tariffs without Congress, that's illegal. His tariffs tax low-income people who don’t pay federal taxes, making life harder for those struggling. So... illegal and cruel. Yep, Trump is still on brand.
Right, in this case it's a huge consumption tax. In a consumer economy like the US that will cause immense damage very quickly.
Anyone with even a basic understanding of economics could tell you that the only great impact of this will be that it will cause a Great #TrumpDepression 🤦
I've never understood how a nation could shift itself to simply be a consumer economy and eventually not run out of money. Oh right, 30 trillion in debt and adding $184 million every hour.
“We” already are. I heard today that there was a $2 million deal in progress on a piece of manufacturing equipment coming from EU.
The buyer secured it with a $250K deposit and signed off on the deal.
Then the tariffs hit……
Chilling that Treasury Sec refused to answer a simple question: who pays tariffs? Simple answer: the importer pays the tax and then passes it on to the rest of us. Cabinet secs too intimidated to contradict the Chief Narcissist.
It is simple econ 101. That POTUS does not understand that and that people who supposedly have power are afraid to tell an obvious truth is a chilling indictment of our formerly great country.
It's a tax paid by American companies and they pass them on to consumers, and when they find out that people can't pay the increase they go out of business.
It’s not about to, it’s reality. My replacement machine parts are higher priced and taking three times as long to get through customs. It’s getting rough to stay in business
Goods are already taking 10-20% hikes at my summer retail job. We ordered our Christmas holiday goods too under tariffs and things are getting cancelled already.
I would also point out that generally speaking when prices on good rise they very seldom go back down to what they were or cheaper. This will be another hike in prices while wages remain the same, ensuring American consumers have even less spending power.
I sell tools to, well, everyone. The prices aren't going up - we just aren't importing anything. Our warehouse has about two months of product at normal sales rates. People are stocking up and getting multiples of things they consume on the job site. Landscapers, roofers, plumbers, auto techs...
So what happens in two months? You closing your doors? Or do you think US factories will be up and running and domestic raw materials will be readily available by then?
Nah, nothing is going to come from inside the US except a few bits and bobs. They saw this coming, just not like this. Other countries have factories geared up and running and the product has been trickling in slowly. Empty ships out of China will drop shipping rates. No inside info, just watching.
It sure does ... But take that anger or sadness or whatever awfulness it's making you feel and turn it into the rage of a thousand suns. Let it burn hot and use it against them all. Almost lost my job today. I'm a chef and my other chef is fully in the cult. I just couldn't today. Lol
We've been stocking up. NOT hoarding. But making sure we will be ok. This weekend we are going "not shopping" to see where things are in our usual trek.
They also put companies out of business when they can’t afford to pass the tariff costs to their consumers. The rich feast and leave the rest to famine. How many Americans thought they somehow would be spared?
I've already found out. I collect fountain pens and many of them are made in China. Most sellers have simply stopped shipping to the US, and the ones that haven't have upped their shipping from free to over $50. A pen that cost $6 including shipping two weeks ago now costs almost ten times as much.
How are they able to do free returns, because the tariff is not refundable. I suppose China doesn’t charge a retaliatory tariff on goods that originated in their own country?
and find out what we buy from Canada
and find out what we buy from China
and find out what the world buys from the USA
and find out what tourism means to the US economy
and...and ...and...
My question after we unfortunately find out and hopefully get through this. Who is going to make businesses bring those prices back down? The honor system isn’t very honorable at the moment. Please show me that tariff tax so I can ask to have it removed if tariffs ever go away. Asking for a nation.
It's a frickin' import tax. An Import TAX. Everyone should definitely be using that phrasing because Trump loves to hide his new tax on the working people of America behind his "big, beautiful tariffs" nonsense.

Used to be a very small effortless part of the job and is now all consuming
I got it in small town western Iowa in the 70s, so it can't have been that special
Bend the, pay tribute and you may get lucky and get a waiver.
The movie theater industry is absolutely going to crash.
It is high time MAGA Trump voters finally taste the shit burger they voted for.
Until they feel the burning pains, they won’t face the fact they sold out our country for lies n hate.
We are far from hitting bottom.
And forgot that he made it
Paying for Mar-a-Lago golfing / party weekends - Airforce One, security personnel, etc.
Trump said that the universal 10% tariff on imported goods is here to stay & may soon be the floor not the ceiling.
So just like that the Middle Class is getting taxed @ 10% on all imports.
Why?
Answer: Extra revenue so billionaires can get their tax cuts.
Just use a sharpie.
It works for Trump.

These tariffs aren’t some kind of wild, new scheme. It’s the *same scheme*, metastasized.
It’s a regressive tax, to boot, which delights republicans.
