This is bad news - Dempsey has a long history of involvement in the nastiest kind of Red-Brown 'anti-imperialist' politics, and has flirted with both antisemitism and sympathy for the far-right

Appreciate it might not be a great idea because of how it could be used by a government hostile to unions, but I honestly think that it shouldn't be possible for a man who is effectively a sympathiser with a country we are de facto at war with to be a union leader, especially such a key sector.
Yes, it's becoming quite absurd at this point. There *is* a fifth column in British society and we seem happy to give them the sort of space that they would never afford us if they had the whip hand
Most notably, Dempsey is virulently pro-Russia, and was involved in a misleadingly-named group called 'Solidarity with the Antifascist Resistance in Ukraine' (SARU), devoted to celebrating the far-right Russia-backed gangster warlords who sprung up in Eastern Ukraine after Maidan
SARU platformed the antisemitic sect "Socialist Fight" (a group so antisemitic they were explled from *Labour Against the Witchhunt*), and posted a link to a video claiming the violent ultranationalist warlord Alexei Mozgovoy was killed as part of a Jewish blood sacrifice
Dempsey actually went to meet Alexei Mozgovoy in 2015, and later wrote a glowing obituary of him. To be clear, this man was a far-right paramilitary leader, who once ordered to thugs to arrest any woman seen in a pub, cafe, or nightclub on "morality" grounds.
No, he will not be in charge of trains.
He will be the representative of a union that covers railway, shipping and bus workers.
The RMT is a democratic union which is not affiliated to any political party.
He was elected unopposed after his excellent work as an assistant to Mick Lynch.

No the far left and the far right are not the same. The only people who think so are centrists with no curiosity

Eddie Dempsey is one of the absolute worst human beings there is. On a par with Steve Hedley
