Playing some Control for the first time. Just got to turning off the internal override. The weird atmosphere mixed with fun movement tech makes this some real Emily bait.

I did the same and got practically softlocked on a boss, lol - I actually thought melee felt better than telekinesis but it turns out, no, it's not supposed to, you're supposed to want to huck desks across the map
it has leveling trees and a loot system which both feel super out of place, the loot system specifically is all like weapon mods that do single digit percent stat increases its infuriating
Remedy games are genuinely amazing, and all take place in the same universe. Control, Alan Wake, Quantum Break, and even Max Payne! Definitely recommend once done with Control to try Alan Wake 2, cuz it has some control stuff in there!!
This is one of my favorite games ever! I've played it through it at least three times. Can't believe some people consider it a mid game. Just criminal. Everything about it is so fun, and it's one of the few games where I really enjoy reading the documents because a lot of them are SO FUN.
The atmosphere, writing, and world building in Control is top notch. I want to wrap myself up in it like a blanket, then wonder how the blanket can be so hot and cold at the same time and why there's a voice that sounds exactly like me coming from inside it.
Remedy has met a lot of good games but Control is my favorite one. Based on how they like to push Graphics I'm a little bit worried I'll need a super computer to play Control through.
I played Fallen Order and had an ok time. I followed it up with Control, and my biggest takeaway was that Jesse plays as a better Jedi than Cal Kestis. I think the force got better in Jedi Survivor, but floating around and whipping rocks at the monsters is Control is just so dang fun and satisfying.
I enjoyed a lot of it, the combat was fun and the story was interesting and the vibes were great. It did wear thin after a while tho because of the sheer number of combat encounters, tho thankfully there was a "kill enemies in one shot" option to make the last hour or so less of a slog
See my problem was that it felt like the gameplay was being interrupted every 5 minutes to read some overly detailed SCP note and I kept wanting to just play the damn game
This game really caught me by surprise with how well the combat and exploration felt. The flow was excellent, and they pulled off the creepy and bizarre SCP vibes fantastically. What a great game. 😊
The omnipresent floating office workers endlessly droning on make for such a perfectly hostile atmosphere. Makes a good counterpoint to yeeting forklifts at monsters.
Even if the gameplay had been a tedious slog I'd have played Control to the end for the vibes alone. Luckily I enjoy the combat too so I finished it three times.
I saw someone (here, I think) show it for free earlier this week, so I picked it up. Unfortunately, my PC doesn't have the drive space to install it.
I'm hoping to pick it up for Xbox One, since I have one of those, too. It probably won't be free, lol
I couldn’t play that game beyond the point, about an hour in, when I paused it and thought “If she’s the new director, shouldn’t her keycard / fob / access code unlock every single door?” 🤔
The brutalist architecture that emphasises 'control' is excellent. Keep half an eye on how the environment changes throughout the game and how it aligns with the plot.
Most important thing to do in Control: READ. EVERY. DOCUMENT. And watch every recording! Control (and Remedy for that) has some of the BEST world building of any developer.
One of the things I liked was the quite generous radius for the indicator that there was a collectible nearby. They made sure you can actually find all those documents without running up to every single desk.
Remedy COOKED with that game! Definitely in my top three of all time. Combining a Metroidvania, an immersive sim, and creepypasta in a single game was an inspired move on their part, and tying it with the Alan Wake universe was [chef's kiss].

Guess no single AAA game is free from those nowadays...
Actually got 75% through the PS4 version before giving up, then got the PS5 version and Platinum'd it to 100.
I'm hoping to pick it up for Xbox One, since I have one of those, too. It probably won't be free, lol
