It keeps trans kids from being subject to the irreversible effects of the wrong puberty. Going through the wrong puberty leaves us damaged and malformed, and makes it harder for us to actually be ourselves later in life.

They're banned in the UK and Europe because the scientific evidence is too weak regarding the potential harms. These are significant - including sterility and bone loss. The oft reported evidence that kids would suicide if they had to go through puberty was also found to have no substance.

Yes, pretty much all reports filed to this system are protected. All contact with this system is harmful to children though. I am not comfortable with any child having cops show up at their house who have the authority to remove them without due process.

There's an often-repeated mantra of "don't do your own investigation." This is of course appropriate if a child has disclosed criminal-level sexual abuse, but this is less than 1% of calls to CPS. School and healthcare folks hear this though and think it means they should just report. 2/

I had one where I interviewed the reporter, who reported the parent was "saying the child is pansexual." Reporter said the kid stated, "I have crushes on boys, or girls, or really anyone" and parent replied, "yeah, [kid] is pansexual," and reporter said that was "discussing adult topics." 2/

And yes, parent was non-white, disabled, queer, had s-work come up on background check. Kid had no diagnosis, but presented very young and naive. The allegation was supported. CPS worker stated parent should have told kid they are too young for crushes and "redirected the conversation." 3/3

We're talking kids living with no bathrooms or beds.

Trans kids and their supportive family members must be protected. What's criminal, however, is what Mace and Raichik are doing here, and it needs to come with appropriate consequences in practice. At some point, these individuals need to face repercussions or they'll never stop.
