There are only two *generally* safe things to say to a cop:
"Am I being detained?" and "I want a lawyer."
"Am I being detained?" and "I want a lawyer."
Comments
"Am I being detained?"
"Am I free to go?"
"I am exercising my right to remain silent." (It's always best to verbally assert your right to remain silent. Simply *being* silent can be construed as obstruction.)
"I want a lawyer."
Because law in this country is perverse, you actually have to say you’re being quiet.
Your mileage may vary.
"Am I free to go?"
"I am invoking my right to an attorney, and I am invoking my right to remain silent."

If you are being detained you just keep saying "I want a lawyer" in response to every question. Don't mess with the script, it's too easy to give them an opening that way.
So be prepared for it.
"'Why did you pull me over?' 'I'm not discussing my day.' 'Am I being detained or am I free to go?' If the answer is yes, you say 'I invoke the 5th' and then you Shut The Fuck Up!™"

If they ask you to step out of your car, lock the door when you exit & if they ask you to unlock it, say the above line again.
They may search anyway but nothing they find (or “find”) is admissible.
